Collectible Trading - How to

Can someone explain to me how you get collectibles from someone else? I clicked on check messages and it just pulls up my xbox live message screen, does it actually send you a message if someone gives you their collectibles?

It works the same way as a regular xbox live message does. However, when they send it to you and you press the guide button, you will have the option to Get Collections or somthing to that affect. It is the first option.
