Good news and Bad news

Good news: There will be a demo released on the 31st of May
Bad news: Western release date has been changed from July to TBC

The demo will contain online play and features:

Four-player deathmatch
Four-on-four deathmatch
A portion of the story mode
Six characters from the total roster

Hopefully, it won't be delayed too long but, I fear it may be a western copyright/trademark issue with some of the game content like Iron Brigade. I'm only speculating though!

Always good to hear about a demo!

Though it's very strange that it was postponed. The game's done, ready to be printed but they're holding it up. Maybe it is a copyright issue, but it seems to me that they'd clarify with the community what the issue is. The again maybe not. I had slight suspicions that the game wouldn't be coming to the west, but a demo for western audiences just about debunks that theory. And I'm sure they would've canceled a western release much earlier.

So it's NOT a western demo. Odd. I can't imagine they'd just scrap an entire western release... Right? Maybe they're waiting to see it's success in Japan, I don't know.

It's easy to make a Japanese account; there's a bunch of tutorials online.

Apparently there's going to be a free Gold weekend from the 1st to the 3rd, so you'll be able to download it with a Japanese account and play online with it (I've seen one user complain that he can't find matches, being in Europe, so it may be necessary to play with the Japanese account instead of your usual account.)
Edit: Apparently in the retail version of the game you can change your search region, but in the demo the section for modifying those values is locked, so yeah, basically unless you make a new Japanese account that gets Gold (I think only the first three accounts created on a console get this privilege) you're only going to have the next three days to play the multiplayer component of the demo.
Your main account can get INVITED to games from any region though, it's just matchmaking that is region-locked for the demo. Look on the Platinum Games forums or GameFAQs to find people.

As for acquiring the game itself, it seems like Platinum is hinting at us to import the game. Unfortunately they can't confirm if it's region-free without upsetting Sega (since they're in a contract with them and would be taking away sales from the American branch by suggesting we import,) but an admin from Platinum said that the game *should* be region-free. You can guarantee yourself the pre-order bonus at AmiAmi, which is also selling the soundtrack.
Edit: Ugh, nevermind turns out that it's not possible for the 360 version of the game to be region-free.

I've set up a Japanese account but, I'm having no luck finding the demo and can only get videos of the game

It's up on Xbox.com (you'll have to switch the region at the bottom left of the page) but not available on the dashboard for some reason.

Yes, it does have the option to change language, surprisingly!
The 6th option down from the top in the OPTIONS menu is for LANGUAGE.
Select that and you can change the Game Voice, Subtitles, and Menu interface to either Japanese or English.

Personally, this is great. In the case this game doesn't release on schedule (EDIT:currently early 2013!),
I can import the JP version (with full english)... and play it many months before it hits in US/EU. I did the same thing to play BlazBlue CS:E several months early. (EDIT: Pre-ordered import)
