Ive had 4 reports back so far saying it works. And you can restart too. Also Even though im in 1st place for the holeshot. Another character name appears as the holeshot. This has happened to another person and they got the achievement too

How do you get the 1st gate slot? When I went to pick it there was a racer there and gate/position 2 was the next free.

I never encountered that. Have you tried backing out and trying to see if the racer isnt in the place? Each time i did this the slot was empty
