I've spent the best part of 3 hours searching for iron ore, been through at least 10 websites hints and tips and locations and i'm still having no luck. Any help?

I think i found some around lava. plus underground... i guess i was lucky. i still need to find some wheat.

Does difficulty affect whether i find iron or not?

Here's a tip to get wheat quicker, do the whole wheat growing process, you know, till the land, plant the seeds. Then use bonemeal on your crops to instantly grow the wheat so you can harvest it!

I don't think so, I think it's just a little rare to find. I'm on easy, and you kinda gotta dig deep, like dig a little below sea level.

nope, if your not finding any its just down to bad luck

just dig as mineshaft down in steps and your sure to come across some

I'm not kidding i've been down to bedrock way over 20 times now and dug around for ages. Either until i use up my 8 stone pickaxes or get killed by lava.

I've come across a decent amount of diamonds, gold and redstone. Annoying that i can't mine it

The easiest way to find iron ore is to explore natural caverns, at least from my experience. In those you can usually find iron ore out in the open.

You can get them by cutting the tall looking grass that covers just about everything in the game. You don't get seeds from everyone of them though, so keep cutting them til' you get as many as you need .

Great guide but could be more descriptive with some.

But you don't mention how to get string.

Just needs a little polish and it'll be good to submit for publishing

Yeah, he does need to go bit more into detail.
String is obtained on random from killing spiders or you can find a spiders web in a dungeon.

I will be cleaning this up over the next few days, if i remember correctly though string is spiders only as web is not in 1.6.6

Hey guys, not trying to persuade you of Ice's guide or anything, but mine goes into more depth.
In my mind I sorta see it as this:
If you have played mc a bit, use Ice's it is a lot less clunky and thus neater

If you haven't have a look at mine, it explains step by step for every achievement

Add me man, I got a world with saddles on it, I can get it for you easy ^.^

btw pro-tip for anyone else, if you get a saddle. Pick it up, save the world then as long as you exit without saving you can get the "when pigs fly" achievement for as many people as you want. At least until autosave is fixed

OMG i just got it, new tip for everyone, create new world called worstseedever with no spaces, should be a sand pit right next to you, dig up sand at back to reveal chest with saddle :P

They spawn in Forest, Taiga and Pine Forest biomes if you need specific locations for the hunt

When they came out on PC I looked for ages and couldn't find one, but as soon as I stopped looking actively I stumbled across one.

uh, that's EXTREMELY misleading....... it should be called bestseedever. :] so far it got me the pig achievement, plus that same chest gave me string so i was able to finally make a fishing pole and get the fish achievement. i found some sugarcane so now i'm going for the cake achievement, and if i can find some redstone i could get the dispenser achievement

oh and how could i forget it net me the bread achievement too from the wheat that was also in the chest.

About the "Leader of the Pack" achievement. I got that achievement by finding a single wolf, saving, giving him a bone (I only had one at the time), then exiting without saving and restarting until I successfully tamed him five times. I even hade the game freeze on me when exiting the 2nd time, and I still got it on the 5th.

Also, for Cow Tipper, it seems that killing the cow is enough, it didn't drop any leather and I still got the achi.

Also, I made the seed mentioned in the description in the video below ("IEEE tivaleas"), found the dungeon he shows during the 2nd part of the video, and got my saddle that way. It's quite easy to find even if you don't spawn there since he jumps up on his pillar and shows us the surroundings. I had a hard time finding a pig afterwards since the level is mostly made out of snowy biomes, but I found one after a while.

for the rail cart achievement, how wide to tunnels have to be? just wide enough for the track pieces? or does the cart need extra space to fit thru a tunnel?

No, you can just make a fine line.

you can just make it in a 1x2 tunnel however if you use powered rail you will have to put the power supply under the block with the rail on
