In the Surfs Up Xbox 360 game, how do you do 'stoke tricks' successfully?

I have had the game two weeks and I am struggling with Stoke tricks. I press Y when it appears but I'm only successful 30% of the time.

I can't answer your question but seeing you ask about this game, made me think when I rented it, thinking it'd be easy. Uh NO! I don't know what it was but for me, it was HARD!!! I ended up taking it back the next day.

I did Google this and found this answer...
Triple tap RB, Double tap B, Quadrillion tap X then button bash.

If you don't land the tricks you probably need to go a little higher on your jumps. I can't think of anything else.
