ImaginaryRuins
I got this achievement last night. I've done a lot of reading on the net and it seems that a lot of PS3 people have problem with this. The description says 'win 10,000 casino coins' and it can be achieved by playing slot machines, or chocobo race. However, many people had difficulty unlocking it by slot machines, and so info. about unlocking with slot machines is quite lacking. Many people expressed that, despite getting way more than 10,000 coins while continuing playing, the achievement (trophy in their case) kept not popping up. This is my theory: You need to win, not just earn. In other words, you can only win coins if at the end your number of coins is more than the starting number e.g. You start by 2000 coins, and end by 12,000 coins. What I did: (beware possible spoilers) 1. Talk to the NPC next to the slot machine. She will tell you that slot machine actually has its 'mood'. If you play while it's in a good mood, naturally you have a higher chance to get the jackpot. If she says its mood is not good, exit the building (but not the casino area) and re-enter. I got the achievement when she said something like 'in terms of weather, it is sunny' (sorry I played the Jap. version) 2. As advised by Aelina in the PS3 forum, use a rubber band to hold LB button so that the machine keeps on running. Depending on luck, you will eventually get the jackpot (777), which will prompt the machine to enter a 'Break' mode (like 'stagger mode' in monster term), and eventually another 777 will make the machine enter an 'overbreak' mode. In 'overbreak', the chance to get a jackpot (777), according to an online Japanese walkthrough site, is 10 times higher than normal. 3. While in 'overbreak' mode, wait for jackpots rounds. Each 777 will win 5,000 coins, and with three wins (15,000 coins), it is likely that you can cover the coins used and lost at the beginning, if not, keep trying. 4. Exit the slot machine and the achievement will pop. *. It is said that you need not get all 10,000 coins in one row, as some players claimed they got it in multiple sessions, as long as they actually won coins. *. Luck is still the MOST dominant factor. So if you find your luck bad, quit to the game's start menu - Exiting to the Timeline map will autosave and all your used coins will be lost. One day I spent 10 hours losing every coin, but then the next day I used only 30mins and won 15,000 coins. Hope this helps, as chocobo race requires solidly raising chocobos and this can take a lot of time. DV Bastian
You should quit while you're ahead. I've lost about 10K CC going for this (restarted my game in 2.5K intervals to avoid losing that money, but still). And the freaking tutorial made it look so easy! :/
asdfen
nice tips the thing is slots are still based on just pure luck so far following this guide I've lost 2 hours and 30k gil in about 2000 spins
Tyranid Slayer
same here, i have been trying to find out what is the trigger event for the jackpot rounds. I have been at this for 4 hours and I have only gotten the jackpot chance, entered victory mode, and got a metallic chomper (not sure it is supposed to be) in the left column. I havent noticed any difference when the lady by the machine says different moods. So I complete;y agree with you, it is entirely based on luck, and mine has always been bad when it comes to this sort of thing in games.
Azn Playah
To reach victory mode, align three 9s. For super victory mode get three ochus. In victory mode, you can get the super by getting either three 9s or three ochus. And the guide advises AGAINST holding down LB because it gives you a penalty to win chance. Tyranid Slayer
oh man, what are the odds, my last ten coins put me into the jackpot for super victory, now i have to give it up. Unbelievable...
Tyranid Slayer
That would have been good to know going into this lol, I did not see that in any of the guides I have looked at, mainly ones written to help with the PS3 trophies, so thanks for pointing that Azn. Azn Playah
No problem, that info was right from the official strategy guide so I'm kind of surprised nobody posted it yet. Sorry that it wasn't up BEFORE you spent all your money though.
Tyranid Slayer
Oh no wonder I wasnt able to find anything about that. Well thanks again man. I probably would have spent days trying to get it to work holding down LB with a rubber band. Although to be perfectly honest with you, I tried doing it manually last night and I didn't really notice that it was executing any differently. I was still getting the exact same results 8 or 9 times in a row just as I was when I holding down LB with a rubber band. Maybe it is just my bad luck striking again. Its anybody's guess. Tyranid Slayer
From what I have been seeing it seems like the results are decided by the programming, so the results are determined the moment you either insert your coins or the moment you start the reels. This means that the order in which you stop the reels or even your timing have absolutely no effect on the outcome. Can you confirm this Azn? If it isn't stated within the official guide, there is no way of knowing for certain without looking at the actual code/algorithm that governs the slot machines. SasuraUchiha
The machine won't get into a good mood for me? WTF is the chance to get that? o.O
Tyranid Slayer
I think that is the problem I have been experiencing too. If you look back at my posts so far, how have they compared to your experience?
SasuraUchiha
I think that is the problem I have been experiencing too. If you look back at my posts so far, how have they compared to your experience? I found out that the mood changes only by reloading the casino area in general.. Also, it seems doing it manually GIVES kinda other outcomes.. but can be wrong too.. Oh and if you lose stuff.. going to the dashboard isn't needed.. just quit by pressing start and choosing "quit to main menu" stuff.. don't know why people say you gotta go to the dashboard for so many things nowadays.. Tyranid Slayer
Yeah now that you mention, doing it manually changes the results, but only for the first 30 turns though. After that, I have observed that it reverts to giving you the results that you would get after holding down LB. I am going to try doing it when the mood is not "its like a hot summers day"/"this machine is on fire." Hopefully I will be able to see some difference. If not, I am going to assume that the algorithm governing the slot machines is broken. As it is I am not advancing to the higher victory stages unless I get there through the jackpot special. I have not seen a row of sevens outside of these events. And I have never seen a row of ochus, ever. I am not sure what the exact conditions are for initiating these jackpot events, because I have not observed any consistent pattern that starts it, it seems completely random Edited February 3, 2012 by Tyranid Slayer
SasuraUchiha
Oh btw.. and I have a FFXIII save.. just to mention this "higher odds" thing..
Tyranid Slayer
What, I have a FFXIII save on HDD as well and I haven't had any kind of luck boost, in fact I would have to say that the luck factor in the slots has decreased with the save on my HDD if it has any effect at all. SasuraUchiha
Well, Square said it would increase your chances.. Anway: No luck at all since hours.. doing it exactly the way they say..
Shad0wTroop3r
I tried last night for abour an hour i got into victory mode 3 times but then always hit one of those machine things on the left which put me back down to regular mode. Tyranid Slayer
Has anybody figured out how the arrows on the side of the slot machines work/what they are supposed to represent? I had thought that they were related to the jackpot somehow but I am beginning to doubt that hypothesis.
