Do they even proofread/edit the editorials? Jesus seriously, use some sense x360a. Your editorial writer was throwing commas in just for the hell of it. They aren't pepper people. You don't just sprinkle your prose with them liberally to add spice.
Don't even get me started on sentence structure and spelling errors. I understand grammar rules aren't generally followed on forums, but when it comes to the site's front page editorials you MIGHT want to think about proofreading. OT: Multiplayer achievements are superfluous. Case in point: MW2 and MW3. Both had strong player bases without using MP achieves to gain numbers.

i know this is an old post, but nice reading anyways.
I too am against multiplayerachievements...I love playing some of the niche titles, but its close to impossible to find people to play against. Generally i dislike the idea about having to go out of your way to get achievements...Some games have multiple ways to get achievements..why not do that with multiplayer achievements? like...get 1000 online kills OR 10.000 singleplayer/local kills. Play 100 games online OR finish campaign on all difficulties... I also absolutely hate the collecting achievements in most games...1000 GS, should in my opinion be possible to get in time by dedication and skill only....it takes the fun out of most games, when you have to follow a guide all the time, because some collectibles are just hidden too well... As far as i know, Microsoft have a rule about that the 1000/1000 should be possible to get without further investment than the game....But isnt xbox live just that? |

I really hate the idea of multiplayer achievements. I loved The Darkness, but as soon as I saw just how many ridiculous MP cheevos there were, I felt an emptiness growing inside of me, knowing that I would never have all of them cleared. My OCD kicks in with any 360 game I buy... I have every achievement in Nier, which took me about 70-80 hours of playtime. Yet, if it had a single MP achievement, I probably wouldn't have it.
I love single-player games, and that is the main reason I own a 360 (besides SC5). Putting multiplayer achievements in games that were meant to be enjoyed as singleplayer experiences just seems like a bland form of getting people to play a game more, and make sure they have a LIVE membership. |

Again, I couldn't agree with you more.

I have a BIG GRIPE when it comes to MP acheivements... Why? Because I shouldn't have to rely on others when it comes to getting all GS in everygame I own, that's why.
I have no problems with MP cheeves only if the entire game is online mp only like BF 1943. But that's ok, I will never buy a game this is MP centric and doesnt include a concrete single player story. A good example of this is Bioshock 2. They had no reason to include multiplayer when the series has always been known for its narrative alone. I'm also sick and tired of this online MP trend in gaming. Single player games has most definitely suffered with the rise of MP centric gaming, and I'm sick of it to be honest with you. This is definitely not the same industry I grew up with back in the 80's, not by a longshot.

Personally, as a long time offline player, with minimal online time over the years, i've grown to loathe MP achievements, ruining my score /cough EA SPORTS GAMES /cough, i think there should be multiplayer achievements but a) make them possible system link/local MP and b) if servers go down, have a back up plan like "do this in multiplayer OR this little bit more work in SP"

I agree...I love playing online, but I don't want to have to play a certain way in multiplayer. I say if they continue to have multiplayer achievements, have them be simply attempt x,y, or z...not reach level 80 or whatever.

I love SOME multiplayer achievements, but others are made for boosters and hackers. I applaud the CoD franchise for keeping the MP achievements to a minimum, and if i recall correctly, CoD4, MW2, and MW3 had 0 MP achievements and I friggin loved it. I can't tell you how hard it was to get all of the Halo 3 MP achievements legitly after Reach came out. Took for ever. I'm down with little to no MP achievements. I like the SP side of games and always have.

replys 244/245 i totally agree i myself am new to online gaming the main reason i gave in and joined xbox live was to get online achievements but i dont rush out and buy all the lastest games so i have a lot of older ones ie:the darkness for which unless i can beg someone to play online at the same time as me its gonna be impossible to do. well rant over thank god for skyrim/fallout 3
mp should be like it is in borderlands you do the same in single player or online i found it added to the game and when my gaming mate isnt online i can just carry on and he can join anytime without having to start anything different this is the best example ive found of mp that i enjoy. I actually think that all multiplayer achievements should have 0G attached to them. This way if people loved the game enough and wanted to challenge themselves to get the MP achievements then they could but for single-player only people or people who don't have online can still maintain their perfect gamerscore.

Great read. Personally i think multiplayer achievements have their place. a lot of games really shouldnt have them and a lot of achievements are horrible (such as COD WAW, 10th prestige for a 0g cheevo is a piss take!), but there are a lot of games that are multiplayer orientated. imagine playing battlefield without any online cheevos!

Im not a fan of Multiplayer either, I buy games to play the campaign and maybe if the co-op's good then i'll play that aswell with friends, I still play BLOPS because it has combat training that around 7 of us still play quite regulary on hardend as we dont then have to deal with skill-less numpties running around lobbing nades or using noobtubes/shotguns just to get further through the 750 ranks.
Most of my achievements have been earned in single player or co-op and not multiplayer. I think the only multiplayer achievements I can remember getting recently were on BF3 as my site has a few BF3 Xbox 360 servers, and while messing around on there a few achievements have been unlocked, 1st, 2nd, 3rd mvp, jaws and the one for getting a kill with a plane, assualt rifle and tank in one game.. |

They're as useful as the rusty swords RPG's tend to give us to start our quests.

Add me to the legion of not being a fan of multiplayer/online achievements. Or multiplayer/offline achievements, for that matter, since as of right now I only have one controller. It's in my nature to be obsessed at completing every single task in a game. On the other hand I'm also a mom to a 9-year-old, so I'm still controlling the amount of online access we have in our house. Online achievements are out of the question for him, and frustrating for me since I really have no desire to complete them.

I'm kinda mixed on the subject, multiplayer achievements should be fun like mainly co-op, like for example Red Dead Redemption have some fun co-op stuff.
But I also hate Halo 3's online achievements because they are ridiculously hard to get without boosting. |

If you are going to have MP achievements make them easy to get or just by simply playing online.....I can't get 10 kills with out dying in Halo 3. |
