What if he had depression? Which is probably what he had. It's not as simple as you make out. Depression is a serious illness and I doubt very much he did it lightly. He was probably sick.

The big word going around is that he was actually gay. Now name one footballer other that Justin Fashanu who's come out as gay?

May I add after everything Justin went through, he also committed suicide! Sadly if this is true, you can kind of feel how hard it is to "come out" as being gay. Especially when you have a wife and kids.. made it was a front?

Either way, its a sad moment. He was doing such a great job for Wales!

Truly saddened by this. Speed was a hero of mine growing up and one of the best players to play for Newcastle in recent memory. Really nice bloke as well. Thoughts are with his family.

I dont think ive ever seen so many nice things said about one person by so many different people in such a short space of time.

Not necessarily on this site, I mean on TV and in the papers etc. Just been watching Sky Sports News for the last hour and even David Camerons been on paying tribute. Seeing reporter Bryn Law (who apparently was a good friend of Gary) break down whilst doing a report from outside Elland Road was a tough watch.

A tragic loss to the world of football.
