Alftand need help *spoilers*

I have cleared threw Alftand all the way to sulla and umana, and i have this dwarvan mechanism in front of me, when i try to activate it, it tells me i do not have the required item to do so... my question is, what is the required item, and where do i get it... thanks so much...

EDIT: just found on yahoo answers "It's part of a quest, just found it. Go to Septimus Signus' Outpost, he will give you the quest. It is north of the academy of winterhold. Kind of inside an iceberg."

yes, Septimus Signus' is techniquly the quest giver, and he also has to give you two items... you can still clear out alftand, but you will need to find him to get the dwarven mechanism open...
