Achievement Guide and Roadmap
Rights of use:
This guide is for the use of x360a.org only and may not be used without the permission of the Author (Nozza x360a) or Website Admin. ![]() Info:
x360a PowerPyx Everyone for Achievement information. Overview: Estimated achievement difficulty: 7/10 Offline: 50 [1000 Online: 0 [0 Approximate time: 20 Hours [Depending on Skill] Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 1 Missable achievements: No [Level Select] Does difficulty affect Achievements: Yes Unobtainable/glitched Achievements: No Extra equipment needed?: No Introduction: Welcome to the 3rd installment of the Modern Warfare franchise. The game takes place right after the end of Modern Warfare 2, so you'll be right in the thick of things. Overall the game isn't all that bad, but it depends on your history with the other call of duties and its Veteran difficulty. The campaign shouldn't take more than 5-6 hours to complete, and most of the hours will be put into the Spec Ops modes. Overall this game isn't the hardest 1000 Story: If you're looking to compete this game in one playthrough, you're going to need to head straight onto the Veteran difficulty. There's a lot of "Complete this mission" based achievements and another half of them are linked to the Veteran difficulty. So your best bet is to start on the hardest difficulty. CoD is known for its Veteran difficulty but don't worry about this one. It's pretty much the same if not a little worse than MW2's. So it's a lot easier than the previous installments. Misc: There are many misc based achievements, which you can only obtain during certain missions. Now if you're playing through on Veteran first, some of these may prove a little difficult. If any of them are proving to be hard on that difficulty, do not worry. Just carry on with the story and you can come back to them at any point on a lower setting to make it easier. Collectables: There's a total of 46 Intel collectables throughout the story based missions. Some will be in plain sight, while others maybe a little trickier to spot. Don't worry if you miss one while you play, as you can return to any of the previous levels and obtain it again. Though to save yourself having to do this, please see the guide below for more details. Spec Ops Missions/Survival: This is where the bulk of your time will be spent. Each mode has a total of 16 maps you'll need to play. It's up to you where you which one you start on as both will take time and have it's challenges. Missions: This is exactly the same as MW2's Spec Ops. You'll have the chance to get 3 stars in each mission, and to get all the achievements relating to this mode, you're going to have to play and complete each one on Veteran. There's two things I'd suggest. First play the maps on a easy difficulty to get a feel for it all. See what happens, best routes etc. Next, grab a friend. Some of these will be very hard with just you. So with that extra gun on the field, it'll help a lot. Survival: In this mode you're going to have to play each of the 16 maps and get to wave 15. The waves go beyond this, but it's just the 15th you need to get to (no need to complete). Again, grab another friend for this. Having an extra person will move this along a lot faster. Note: All achievements are in the order of how the campaign progresses. The first 2 posts are just the unmissable campaign related ones, so you really don't have to worry about these. After this you'll have all the misc based campaign achievements. Again, these are all in order of how the levels are laid out. So once you've done one, the next one will be on the next mission etc. After this you'll have all the Special Ops related achievements. Any questions or problems, please let me know. Enjoy.

The Best of the Best 100Complete the campaign on Hardened or Veteran difficulty. You'll obtain this achievement once you've completed the final mission "Dust to Dust" on Veteran difficulty. If you're a previous player of any of the Call of Duty games and their Veteran setting, then this shouldn't cause you to much trouble. The game plays very similar to MW2, which was the easiest of all the Call of Duty games. Take note that the game still has the same rules as the previous as in for a cutscene or your AI members to do anything, you have to advance forward. If you just stand there, not moving forward, the enemy forces will just keep on spawning, so take your time but move up when you can. Take note that you must also play the "Prologue" on Veteran difficulty to unlock the "The Big Apple" achievement. Not doing so will not unlock it after you complete the "Hunter Killer" mission. Tips:

Informant 20Collect 22 Intel Items. Please refer to "Scout Leader" for more information. Scout Leader 35Collect 46 Intel Items. There's a total of 46 Intel collectables throughout the campaign. Some will be in plain sight, while others may be a little trickier to spot. Don't worry if you miss one while you play, as you can return to any of the previous levels via level select. Here's a video of all Intel locations across all the missions. Strike! 20Kill 5 enemies with a single grenade in Single Player or Special Ops. Below are the 3 best spots to get this achievement. The video shows you #1 but just after the place I mention. #1: Right at the start of the third mission "Persona Non Grata." Right at the start of the mission, Price will tell you to get on the balcony to the right. Do so, and look down onto the courtyard and look at the big double doors at the back. As soon as your guy down on the ground fires a rocket at the helicopter, cook your grenade and aim for the doors. A second or 2 before it explodes, throw it. Just as it gets near the target, 5+ enemies will breach through the double doors and your grenade will welcome them. #2: The second place to try this on is "Back on the Grid." As you make you way up to the church, don't climb the last set of steps. Cook a grenade and then walk up. As you do, the double doors will swing open and you'll be greeted by half a dozen guys. With your cooked grenade, chuck it at them and you should kill them all in one go! #3: Finally the third spot is on the next mission "Mind the Gap." Just play through the level until you open the truck doors. You'll now be ambushed. Deal with the onslaught, and make your way through the small warehouse and out the back. You should now go through a wired gate and need to head left. Keep to the right side and get down to where you get blocked off by a brick wall and 2 portable toilets. From here start to cook your grenade and now look across to the left corner and you'll see loads of guys run out and all group up in one place. Quickly through your grenade into the group to unlock the achievement. If you're not fast enough, the helicopter will do a strafing run and kill them all. If by chance you miss or the grenade explodes too early, simply restart from the last checkpoint and try again. Jack the Ripper 20Melee 5 enemies in a row in Single Player or Special Ops. To melee, make sure your within lunging distance or right up close and press down on (or if you've changed the controls ) to preform a stab.Unless you're on a lower difficulty, the best mission to get this on is "Stronghold". Play through until you get down to the prison. At this point Price will switch the lights off, leaving half a dozen guards in total darkness. From here, you can simply walk right up to them and get a free kill. Seeing as you have your night vision and they don't, none of them will see you unless you physically touch them. If getting this in the campaign is proving difficult, load up the first map in the Spec Ops Survival mode and you can gain 5 quick kills on the first wave. This Is My Boomstick 20Kill 30 enemies with the XM25 in "Black Tuesday." This achievement is cumulative, so if you die the kills you previously got still count towards the total. You start the mission off with the XM25 (High Tech Grenade Launcher) as your secondary weapon, so press right at the start as you'll be using this for most of the mission.Make sure that you keep it on you the whole time, since you won't find another one. Now just make your way through the mission only using this gun to kill the enemies. If you run out of ammo, swap back to your starting weapon, but don't worry as later one you'll come across an ammo crate and auto refill. If you don't have it by the end, simply reload the last checkpoint before you complete the mission and get the remaining kills. What Goes Up… 20Destroy all the choppers with only the UGV's grenade launcher in "Persona Non Grata." In the third mission "Persona Non Grata" you'll follow Price into a cellar and be presented with UGV. For this achievement you'll need to take out a total of 5 helicopters with the UGVs grenade launcher. You'll have a total of 20 grenades on the UVG, and each helicopter takes 2 grenades until they're destroyed. Your best bet here is to take it slow. Pressing will shoot the minigun, so use this on all the ground units. It has unlimited ammo so don't worry about running out. As soon as you spot a helicopter, let it take its position and take your time. Once you have it in your sights press to fire one of the UVGs grenades. Here's the order they come in:
Flight Attendant 20Kill all 5 enemies during the zero-g sequence in "Turbulence." *Secret* As soon as the plane gets hijacked and the conference room is breached in the mission "Turbulence", kill the guys that enter and make sure you pick up one of the AK-74U's before you head into the next room. Once you've done that, head into the next area and you'll suddenly be thrown into the air. You're now in the zero-gravity part of the mission. While floating about, you'll need to kill the enemy forces that are also in the air with you. This can be quite tricky because of the camera angles and you getting turned upside down, so try and be as fast as possible, but don't just spray bullets. Also remember that swapping weapons is faster than reloading. It's also a lot easier to just hip-fire, rather than zooming in. You should also of killed 3 guys before you get thrown about the 2nd time before the remaining 2 can be dispatched. If you don't get 3 then 2, restart the checkpoint otherwise you probably won't have enough time. For Whom the Shell Tolls 20Destroy all targets during the mortar sequence with only 4 shells in "Back on the Grid." After taking control of the .50 Cal on the car, you'll be attacked by mortars. Follow Price through the alleys until you come to a small tower with two guys on top. Take them out and this is where the mortar is. Your challenge is to take out all the oncoming enemies with just 4 mortars. Just make sure you wait until the groups of enemies have bunched up, so you can get the most out of one hit. Also, make sure you hit the cars fast before the enemies exit the car and spread out. Below is a quick guide on how to do this.
Kill Box 20Kill 20 enemies with the Chopper Gunner in a single run in "Return to Sender." Right near the start of "Return to Sender", you get to take control of the machine gun attached to the helicopter above. You'll get 3 gunning runs in this level but this is easily doable in the first one with a bit of luck. Take control of the gun when prompted and just hold down and never let go.Just keep aiming for all the red squares scattered about and hopefully once you've finished the first run, the achievement will unlock. If not, just wait for the 2nd or 3rd pass and you should have no trouble getting the remaining kills. Feel free to restart your checkpoint if it doesn't unlock just before or after you've finished.

Danger Close 20Take down a chopper with an AC-130 smoke grenade in "Bag and Drag." A little way into the "Bag and Drag" mission, you'll be given the option to summon air-support by throwing a smoke grenade. From the point of first using it, head down the big set of stairs and head right up another small set. It's right here at the top of these a helicopter will fly over and start dropping in some enemy infantry. Right at this point, load up another air-support grenade and throw it underneath the helicopters' location. Give it a few seconds and the AC-130 will fire off a load of bullets destroying the helicopter and unlocking your achievement. Mιnage ΰ Trois 20Destroy 3 tanks with a single 105mm shot in "Iron Lady." As soon as you take control of the AC-130 at the beginning of the "Iron Lady" mission, switch to the FLIR (infrared visor) with the . You should be set automatically set to the 105mm, but if not, press to swap between the 3 ammo options. Now if you look in the center of the circular area (use the to zoom in and out), you'll spot 2 tanks side by side. Then look to the left of these, and you'll spot a 3rd tank moving up to them. All you need to do here is wait for that 3rd tank to be along side the other 2 and then simply take a shot right in the middle of them all. With them being all so close to each other, the explosion of everything will take all 3 out in one go and unlock your achievement. Nein 20Kill 9 enemies with A-10 strafing runs in "Scorched Earth." About a quarter of the way into the "Scorched Earth" mission, you'll be given the chance to deploy some A-10 strafing runs. Simply select where you want it to start then place the next marker where you want it to end. This is pretty easy achievement because you pretty much need to kill all the ground units and there are plenty more than 9. When you see a group, watch where they're running to or grouping. Then quickly place your first marker ahead of them and then make your strafing run line as long as it'll go and then place the 2nd marker. Once the attack is launched, you should get some kills but it'll take a few runs to get a total of 9. For some reason, a few guys seem to survive even though it looked like they were right in the middle of the attack. 50/50 20Complete a Special Ops Mission Mode game with the same number of kills as your partner. You can do this over XBL, on your own with two controllers in Splitscreen or in a Private Match with another friend. Play the first Spec Ops Mission "Stay Sharp". Once 2 people are in the game there will be a total of 34 (17 each) enemy targets to hit. Once you've sorted out your guns (pistols work best) start the course. The best tactic here is for player 1 to go through the map killing all targets that pop up until he has 17 total (number of kills are on the right side). With player 2 following behind. As soon as player 1 has 17 kills, let the 2nd player take over and kill the rest. By the end of the course and once all the targets have been shot down in the last room, both players will be on a total of 17 kills each and the achievement will unlock. Birdie 20Kill 2 enemy helicopters without getting hit in a Special Ops Survival game. This could be one of those annoying achievements, but the video below shows you the best plan of action to take. During any Special Ops Survival game, you'll need to take down 2 helicopters without getting hit. Please note that being hit before your first attempt at shooting one down is okay. It's only after that you must be careful. There's multiple ways to do this but the most efficient and fastest way is by using a predator missile. One of the best maps to also do this on is "Carbon" due to its layout. Helicopters spawn on wave 6 as well as ground units, so there's a few things you're going to need. First you'll need to save up around $7-10,000 (to be safe) before wave 6. Once wave 5 has ended, buy 2 sets of claymores then head to the Air Support Armory. Once inside, purchase a predator missile. Before the wave starts, place your claymores around all the entry points, then wait for the helicopters to reach the map. When they do, simply fire your missile and hit the first one. Once it's down, purchase a 2nd missile with your remaining money and repeat. You must make sure NOTHING hits you after the first predator missile. If they do, you'll have to restart. Serrated Edge 15Finish a Juggernaut with a knife in Special Ops. A Juggernaut will spawn at wave 10 of a Survival game. The best thing to have on you when one is about is a lot of ammo and few flashbangs. Start out by making sure it's just you and the Juggernaut left. Now work around him and just keep hitting him with bullets. To be safe use about 2 clips then stop. From here, find something you can run around so you can get behind him. Throw a flash bang, get behind him and start slashing at him with your knife. If he's taking a fair few slashes, put some more bullets in him. Hopefully after a few slashes of your knife you'll get the kill and achievement. Arms Dealer 20Buy all items from the Survival Weapon Armory. Note: You do not have to buy all the items from this Armory all in one Survival match. Purchasing these items are cumulative across all games you play, so just remember which one's you've bought. This Armory comes available at wave 2. Below is a guide to this Armory and what costs and levels things are: Assault Rifles: $3,000
Danger Zone 20Buy all items from the Survival Air Support Armory. Note: You do not have to buy all the items from this Armory all in one Survival match. Purchasing these items are cumulative across all games you play, so just remember which one's you've bought. This Armory comes available at wave 4. Below is a guide to this Armory and what costs and levels things are: Air Support Armory

Defense Spending 20Buy all items from the Survival Equipment Armory. Note: You do not have to buy all the items from this Armory all in one Survival match. Purchasing these items are cumulative across all games you play, so just remember which one's you've bought. This Armory comes available at wave 3. Below is a guide to this Armory and what costs and levels things are: Equipment Armory
Get Rich or Die Trying 25Have $50,000 current balance in a Special Ops Survival game. This achievement is not cumulative. You must have a total of $50,000+ in your bank at one given time for this to unlock. This means while you progress through the waves, you can only do limited spending. So make sure you get what you need at the beginning, then only spend a small amount on ammo when needed. A good and fast way to get your cash up fast is by getting the end bonuses. Make sure you get those killstreaks, headshots, accuracy kills, rampages, finish fast and take little damage etc. All these add the extra cash to your total. A another way to save on cash is to also use the weapons the Enemy AI drop. Using these, will save you a lot of money. There's also a nice little coop trick you can do to. Start a 2 player Survival and have one of the players reach the $50k mark. Once the achievement unlocks, share all the money with your partner via one of the Armories. This way they'll get your $50k and the achievement to. I Live 10Survive 1 wave in a Special Ops Survival game Simply start up any of the Special Ops Survival maps and complete the first wave. This is nothing too hard as it's only infantry enemies. Survivor 20Reach Wave 10 in each mission of Special Ops Survival mode. Please refer to "Unstoppable" for more information. Unstoppable 40Reach Wave 15 in each mission of Special Ops Survival mode. There's a total of 16 Survival maps you'll need to play here. To make it a little easier, these are best done with one other player. You may also want to note that not all of the maps are available from the start. Some require you to be a certain level within the Survival mode. By simply playing the other maps, you should have no trouble reaching these ranks. All you need to do is reach the 15th wave for it to count, there is no need to complete it. Please note, that when you reach the 15th wave you MUST die and NOT quit. Quitting out will not register your current wave. Maps: Level 0: Easy
No Assistance Required 20Complete a Special Ops Mission Mode game on Hardened or Veteran with no player getting downed. The best and easiest map to do this is on is "Milehigh Jack". As it's quite short and not much room for the enemy AI to maneuver, it's the perfect place. I'd start out on a lower difficulty to get where people spawn, and what's best when. Just be on your toes, and using your flashbangs is a must. The only hiccup in this level is the timer, but once you know what you're doing, it's a breeze. For more helpful info on some Veteran tactics please see the "The Best of the Best" achievement up top. Brag Rags 10Earn 1 star in Special Ops Mission Mode. Please refer to "Overachiever" for more information. Tactician 20Earn 1 star in each mission of Special Ops Mission Mode. Please refer to "Overachiever" for more information. Overachiever 40Earn 48 stars in Special Ops Mission Mode. There's a total of 16 Mission maps you'll need to play here. To make it a little easier, these are best done with one other player. You may also want to note, that not all of the maps are available from the start. Some require you to be a certain level within the Missions mode. By simply playing the other maps, you should have no trouble reaching these ranks. The Missions mode is split into 3 difficulties and each one offers there own * rank. The higher you go the more *'s you'll get upon completion. So to gain this achievement, you'll need to play and complete all 16 Missions on the Veteran difficulty. Regular = * Hardened = ** Veteran = *** Maps: Tier 1: Level 0

There's a couple of things we need to add or figure out. We're not too sure on the attachments for the Survival Armory... Does anyone know if they count or not towards the achievement? They seem to vary depening on gun, as some are unlocked but others aren't etc. If there's anything you see that may need sorting or adding, please let me know. There maybe some more videos coming soon to, so enjoy! |

Excellent guide. A few grammatical errors, though.

There shouldn't be a comma in the third sentence of the first paragraph (You may also want to note, that not all of the maps are available from the start.) Quote:
"that s" should be changed to "that's" in the first sentence of the second paragraph. There should be no commas in the first sentence in the second paragraph (A good tactic that s shown in the video, is that one of you take the props on the left, while your buddy handles the right.) "cross fire" should (could) be one word (I've always seen it as one word). There shouldn't be a comma in the third sentence of the first paragraph (The only thing you have to make sure of for this, is that you complete the run in 2 or 3 stars.) Quote:

There should be an apostrophe after "helicopters" in the first sentence of the second paragraph (Right at this point, load up another air-support grenade and throw it underneath the helicopters' location.) Quote:

Don't worry. A full check of spellings and everything is on the table. I'll hopefully get it done today, I just had some things to do and also look into other stuff for the guide first.
This one though: Quote:

"You may also want to note, that not all of the maps are available from the start" should not have a comma. Also, "By simply playing the other maps, you should have no trouble, reaching these ranks." There should be no comma between "trouble" and "reaching". The commas break up the sentences where they should be flowing. Read them out loud with the way it's written and the way I'm suggesting it. They just don't should right. I don't claim to be 100% correct, but one thing I was good at in school was grammar, and those sentences just don't look right to me. No skin off my teeth if you don't change them.

Unstoppable: "You may also want to note that not all of the maps are available from the start." Overachiever: "You may also want to note, that not all of the maps are available from the start." I knew these would be corrected sooner or later; I'm just nitpicky. Needless to say, this is an excellent guide. Thanks! Quote:
That's strange. According to Neomop's guide, it says: Quote:
This video, apart from it being rather insulting with the language he uses, shows him getting the achievement on "Milehigh Jack". MODERN WARFARE 3 NO ASSISTANCE REQUIRED ACHIEVEMENT GUIDE EASY - YouTube

I know this is not related to this thread, but can someone explain about the point/killstreak system work. Although, throughout the gameplay I had a 10 kill killstreak and then died. When I respawn and killed 2 more enemies I got the 12 point killstreak which I believe is the Advanced UAV.
Not even sure how this system works. |

Let me get through these.

I'll get another way up by tonight for everyone. Please see the comment below which is also regarding this question. Quote:

Though, the map and tactic used in the video is the best map. So I'm likely to put that one and take out the other. I've done it a few times with my mate and we've had some bad luck with 1 death here and there, but with a bit of practice it's a good short map to do it on. I'll take all the wrong stuff out asap. Though is you use any of the other 2 and die, your killstreak gets reset. Each package has different killstreaks inside, so have a look at them and see which one suits your game style! |

Great guide Nozza. Couple of comments/corrections:
1) For the achievement "Birdie," you can actually get shot by the helicopters BEFORE you destroy the first one. Once you destroy the first one, then you can't get hit. I was getting mowed down, as was a friend, and then he took them both out and got the achievement. The important part is staying safe once you destroy the first one. Also, why do you recommend a sentry gun and claymores? Helicopters come at wave 6 with no other enemies. Seems like an unnecessary thing to do. Granted I've only played the first two Survival maps, but in both maps the two helicopters came at wave 6 with no other enemies. So really, you only need $5000 if you want to use two predator missiles. You might also want to note that, if you have a teammate, it's very easy to have him shoot a helicopter until it's smoking, and have the chopper focus on him, then finish it off. In case you can't get to the armory for a second predator or don't have the money. This was how we did it for each of us: predator for the first, then finish off the second with a gun after it's smoking. 2) For "Get Rich or Die Trying," a couple easy ways to save money are to use the guns the enemies are using, so you can refill on ammo for free. For example in the first two maps I played, use the Model 1887 for the first 5 rounds. Then they start dropping MP5s, which I used. Then they drop a lot of ACRs in rounds 10-20. I only bought a SCAR and two or three ammo refills the entire time. It's also very handy to have co-op partners take out the choppers so you don't have to waste $2500 on a predator. Or take out the choppers with bullets, since it's much cheaper to refill your ammo than to buy a predator missile. 3) For "No Assistance Required," easy one....fix the color haha |

As for why it got stickied so quick, well....the guy who made is on the guide staff. Doesn't bother me as long as the guide is good, which it is. |

I understand first come first serve doesn't apply but why not just try improve the first guide with your knowledge to make the best guide possible instead of just starting a whole new one, what I wrote sounds pretty contradicting but still. It isn't fair if someone who is 'staff' gets priority and automatically gets stickied.
