Discussion thread for the new Tom Clancy game.

Highlights from 12 page cover story in issue#224 of GameInformer:

•Rainbow 6 Patriots doesn't come out for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, or PC until 2013

Story info:
• set in current times America
• paramilitary groups are angered over the direction of the country
• a charismatic figurehead known as Tredway has united these groups together as "True Patriots"
• his main targets are the government and it's financial institutions
• at one point you will control a True Patriot to better understand their perspective
• New direction for Team Rainbow along with new leadership in Zulu squad leader, James Wolfe
• players will control the new Echo squad leader
• letting civilians die or killing them outright is no longer a game over, but instead shapes the story
• expect every decision to be a hard one and morally gray as there won't be a simple "right or wrong" answer

Game info:
• instead of using Unreal Engine 2 again, they are using the Anvil engine from Assassin's Creed
• expanded tactics for encounters anywhere between Frag & Clear to Misdirections, expect encounters to have twice as many options than before

Multiplayer info:
•fully rendered and interactive pregame lobby where gamers can invite friends, use a firing range, change loadouts, launch matches, and explore tactics with "sandtable"
• players will enter the "troop transport" to launch matches where you can see everyone's weapons and uniforms on their 3D player model
• a new model for "commander and follower" where veteran players can mentor new recruits by recruits asking to be the veteran's follower, allowing access to the veteran's tactics in "sandtable"
• rappelling has been streamlined to make it more effective in combat
• ACES progression system from RSV returns with new enhancements along with the popular Persistent Elite Creation customization
• "sandtable" is the return of pre-mission planning that was absent in the Vegas titles
• "sandtable" allows new players to get acquainted with maps along with key points in a red virtual world with highlights in different colors
• with "sandtable" you can leave tips for others via markers on your d-pad such as "toss grenades here" or "camping spot"

I like the concept of it. Its funny I was watching the news the other day and they had a 10 min special on the rise of militia groups in america and made me think of the game. Hope the SP story is better the Vegas and the MP gets a well needed upgrade.

It certainly looks like it's getting a major upgrade all across. Just think, it's still another year of development before they're done with it. Game has an enormous amount of potential.

Personally, I'm a little depressed by the idea this could be a launch title for the next generation. I really wanted to play this on 360, especially as I'm usually 1-2 years behind when new generation consoles are released. That's too long for me... Of course then again I've survived all of the delays for Aliens: Colonial Marines.

Wow I have heard nothing about this game until I spotted this thread. I shall definitely be getting this, R6V2 is ranked in my top 5 games I absolutely loved it.

Most likely a next-gen console. I also read they lost a couple people who helped with Rainbow 6 Vegas 2, which could be concerning.

Anyways, looking forward to this game. It'll be a blast.

You and me both dude, it's been too long since Vegas 2. Doesn't really bother me if it is next-gen, I'll be buying one or the other at launch anyway. Both if I can get it by the wife lol
