could someone clarify what unlocked/sim free means

ok, i was thinking about buying a lg e900 optimus and it says unlocked/sim free,so i checked google to see what it means but couldnt get a clear answer,so iwas was hoping someone could help me

And also iam getting a pay as you go,does this effect it?
oh and is the lg phone good?

Unlocked/sim free means that you can use SIM cards from any telco, it's not locked to a specific provider.

It's means it comes without a sim card and is not locked to any particular network so you can choose which one to go with.

Thats what i have done with my htc trophy. Bought it unlocked and put my pay as you go tesco sim card in.

Unlocked means that you can use it on any carrier that uses sim cards be it pay as you go or contracts.
