Collector's edition stock exhausted
I'm in Sydney, Australia and I casually wandered down to my local shops to pre-order the collector's edition of Skyrim with the awesome dragon statue. I was surprised to learn that both JB Hi-Fi and EB games had already exhausted their pre-order stock of the collector's edition and said most stores they knew of had done the same. Apparently each store only had about 5 copies. The guy at EB suggested I try the website and I had a look when I got home and it didn't have the collector's edition neither did JB's website. I thought about ringing around to different stores but I really couldn't be bothered so I ordered it off the UK GAME website. I also checked the Amazon UK but they didn't have it and the Australian GAME site only had a PS3 collector's edition.
I didn't realise this would be so popular. I've spent a couple of days thinking about it because of the price and didn't think I would have any trouble pre-ordering. Just wondering has anyone else in Australia or the rest of the world had trouble pre-ordering? |

so how I doubt the company is going to miss out on a finance opportunity. In all likelihood when they see they are selling so well they will put more on the market.
but if you really want it bad make sure to keep your eyes peeled so you don't accidently miss it. :P

I think most people took their time considering whether or not to buy it because of the price, as you mentioned. Although, I'm sure the majority opted out, I'm surprised to hear that even though most won't get the $150(?) CE, they are still running out. This isn't a slam at your country, but I assume it's that way with most things in a remote area like Australia. I know even with things like multiplayer, Australia gets the back burner, as it's not deemed a huge priority. Probably a mistake for many game publishers out there. In any event, you might have to sit back and think about how much this CE means too you. By that I mean, how much are you willing to spend, because getting the game shouldn't be a problem, but the goodies you want might cost you more than you're willing to spend. I would imagine Australia has a different region code than the UK or western Europe, and surely N.A. releases wouldn't work there? So presumably you would have to buy an Aussie copy of the game, and CE from either the States or Europe. Hopefully you could recoup some of the extra money spent by selling the sealed game on eBay, or what have you. That's my best advice.
P.S. I know a lot of the in-store stock, is already gone, as far as people the can give it away to on midnight, but online there is still plenty. I haven't heard of any major retailer "running out". I just checked Amazon right now and they are still available. I would buy one myself if I knew I could make at least $50 profit off it relatively soon. I'd be taking $150 gamble on my credit card, that I don't feel I can make a return on. :3

Still haven't pre-ordered mine yet. I was planning on getting the CE as well. Hopefully GameStop won't be out of stock by the time I get around to it.

But a few days ago i noticed on EB's website they have an edition that has everything the collectors has, without the dragon statue, at a much cheaper price, $110 i think. I went ahead and changed my pre order to this.

I agree, not saying you aren't free to spend your money how you would like, but I thought the draw of this CE was the statue? I mean if I had the choice of the artbook and DVD, or just the statue, I would probably have to go with the statue. :3

It is similar but not the same as the CE, the only thing you get that is the same is the game itself. I think the EB games edition is pretty awesome, especially considering it is the same price as the standard edition. I actually posted about it in the thread I posted a link to at the top of my post. There is a pic and list of what you get. Last edited by BluWolve; 08-18-2011 at 12:46 PM. |

The messed up thing is, the 10% of games I actually bought from Australia probably cost me at least 50% of what I have spent on imported games.... EDIT: Once again DEG23, You ARE NOT getting the artbook or the DVD in the edition you have pre-ordered. I don't mean to sound rude but I Don't want you to get your hopes up thinking you are getting the same stuff that is in the CE. Don't worry though because as I said I reckon the EB Exclusive Edition is pretty awesome. One thing I think is extra awesome is the fact that it comes with a notebook. I don't know about anyone else but I have been playing RPG games for a long time and When I Really get into a massive game like this is going to be I tend to write a lot of stuff down (crafting recipes ect.) so this will come in quite handy. If I was getting that edition... This is what you get:
![]() This is whats in the CE; In addition to including the eagerly awaited game, this premium version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim also includes: Alduin Statue. Created in conjunction with the IP Factory, this collector’s only statue stands 30.5cm tall and is made of high quality PVC. Modelled from actual in-game 3D digital files, it showcases Alduin, the World Eater. He stands perched atop one the game’s many dragon walls that teach the player the lethal language of dragons. ‘The Art of Skyrim’ Official Art Book. Featuring over 200 pages of striking, full-colour illustrations, sketches and models, this stunning 23.8cm x 30.8cm coffee table book showcases the characters, creatures, environments and weaponry of Skyrim. With a foreword by game director Todd Howard and commentary from Bethesda Game Studios artists, readers will be guided through the game’s iconic visual style. ‘The Making of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’ DVD. This documentary DVD contains exclusive, behind-the-scenes footage, including interviews with the Bethesda Game Studios team as they take you from concept to creation and provide insights into the story, gameplay, setting, legacy of the Elder Scrolls franchise, and much more.

With my preorder, I'm getting a HQ cloth map and I'm fine with that, the money I'm saving on that PVC dragon goes to other games which I'll be looking more at than some collectors toy.

I hate to sound like a dick when I ask this, but why is everyone assuming it's a cloth map? Sure it looks that way, but everywhere I have looked I have seen the words "premium" used. If someone can show me evidence to the contrary and prove that it is indeed cloth, or some type of cloth-like material, then I will happily never bring it up again. I just don't want to expect something and not get it, or for others to have the same expectations.

Thanks for that. Finally, I can stop wondering if it is cloth, or rather cloth-like and not paper. Honestly I wish there was a little something else for preordering, but considering most games give you some digital in-game item, it's nice to have something of quality, and tangible. :3
Had to double check if I had it preordered already, and I did not. Decided to get the CE despite my better judgement. I think the stuff in there is cool, but definitely not worth $150, but with tax comes to about $165. I think just hearing about people not being able to get it, makes me want it, just for the "na na" factor, because I'm an ass like that. >_>

I'd say no need to panic, there will be enough CE's on Ebay after release, and most of them will surely drop in price below the official mark of 150 USD/Eur. It's always like that.

Usually I buy all my games on ebay but There are only a few games a year that I actually pre-order and buy in store and this game just so happens to be at the top of that list. |

Granted most people would probably rather have that but the fact remains they can be cheap with next to no detail, or somewhat pricey with a good amount of detail. I remember I wanted some Xenosaga type ones, but didn't feel like paying $60-$80. So while it is pricey, it does fit the bill. I would agree that the CE might cost less in the future on eBay, but I'm going to disagree simply for the fact this game has a cult following. Like Mass Effect, Modern Warfare, Halo, Gears of War, or Battlefield. I think this is something that will be in short supply and many will want after the fact. If we were talking about something like Dead Rising 2 CE, then yes. Which I recently bought for $35 with S&H, and later found on Amazon for $25. QQ, not only that but a month ago I bought a Tron CE at Gamestop for my birthday for $50. I was able to sell the game for $25 and ended up basically paying $25 for the light cycle. Point I'm trying to make is with lesser known/smaller fan base titles, more than likely you are correct. With things that people wait for with baited breath, and salivate over, probably not.

I don't see why they couldn't have made a middle edition without the statue. Not only is the price very high, but the statue isn't too good looking methinks. I'd prefer the Arkham City statue and that's close to half the price. Don't get me wrong, I love the series, especially Oblivion, possibly my favourite game of all time, but couldn't they have done it with just the dvd and art book?

For those of us in the U.S., when was the last time you saw a Gamestop/Best Buy run out of ANY new video game? lol pre-ordering is a scam.

It depends if you want release date shipping, like I get and a good majority of others do off Amazon, then yes, really doesn't matter when you order. If you got an camp out for midnight release, then it definitely does matter when you preorder, wait too long and you will have to wait awhile to get yours in-store.

Have to agree with this. Some CE games go Down in Price (Star Wars the Force Unleased 2 or even Halo Reach Limited Edition) But some CE games never will (Black Ops Hardened Edition or Halo Reach Legendary Edition) I would wager Skyrim would be one of those Collectors editions that only get more expensive. |

its very unlikely that you'll find full sets on Ebay for a lower price, however it is likely that you will probably be able to get pieces of it that people may not have wanted for the correct pricing meaning you could snag some of the stuff you want while leaving out some of the stuff you don't (like the overpriced dragon >.< (I know its expensive because its good but don't have room for/don't really want a dragon statue in my room.))
