replacing console
I currently have an xbox 360 arcade. Now I got three flashing red lights when I turn it on. This would refer to problems with the power source or else it should be send in for repair. I checked the power source and it's all good, meaning something else is broken.
It's rather old, so instead of having it repaired I rather buy a new console. However, I have an external HD with my current console. I believe I cannot plug this into the Xbox 360 Slim. Is this correct? If I would buy a Slim console, is there a possibility to at least transfer the data from my current external HD (without using the old console, cause it doesn't start up anymore). And if I plug the HD into a different console, does it accept the games I did install to it, or is that console-specific? I got one of those consoles that likes to make scratches onto the disks, rendering them useless. Therefore, I'm not sure if the disks will still work if I insert them into a new console. Could I use the previous installed game data for playing on a different console? Hope someone here can answer my questions. Thanks! |

People have been able to use those older HDDs on the Xbox S after removing the casing. They work just fine when you insert them into the drive bay. There are a few YouTube tutorial videos that show how.
All of your DLC (and installed MarketPlace games) should work when you're signed into Xbox LIVE -- even on a different console. However if you want to play OFFLINE, you will have to do a license transfer to the newer console. Retail games that you have installed onto the HDD don't require any license transfer. You'll be ok to play those on or offline. No Recover Gamertag will be necessary since that data is already on your HDD. Last edited by gamerguy69; 08-01-2011 at 06:46 PM. |

Thanks, found some of the videos on youtube. Looks fairly easy. Just remove the HDD from the case and insert it into the HD bay. Guess I will pick up a new console tomorrow then and give this a try.
I'm always connected to live, so there should be no issues there. |

That makes sense. The old console doesn't work anyway.

Then I would need to buy the console with the 250 gb harddisk, while I have a perfectly fine 60 gb harddisk. I quickly checked, the price difference would be 60 euros, plus 17 euros for a cable I probably use only once. I might consider this option because the 60 gb disk only has 10 gb free space left. Plus, I know nothing can go wrong.

Remember that you can only do it once every 12 months though, I guess so you don't keep transferring it to your mates consoles when you go round their houses etc... |
