I can't wait until it gets back! I usually download my series, but GOT is worth buying. I have the first season on DVD and I've watched it over and over again. Does anyone know how many episodes season 3 will have?

After seeing some things that happened in season 2, seeing some indicators in that preview trailer and reading up on some other stuff it seems like HBO is about to start really moving away from following the books as closely as they did in season 1.

I mean, moving really far away from following the books.

It'll be 10 episodes again. They'll be a few min. longer each totaling a complete episode.

Watching the video in itself ruins whatever you're up to now if you're just watching the TV show imo.

I think it's to make it more TV friendly. TV audiences are jaded and you have to keep it interesting in order to maintain viewership.

George R Martin works really closely with GoT, so I don't think it'll fall too far away.

I stopped reading the second book and opted to watch the show first instead to avoid some of the bigger twists that I had ruined by reading the first book before watching it. Like Ned and Drago etc. But I am rethinking that now, after watching the second season I could already tell from the little i read that they changed it up a lot.

I really don't like what they did with Winterfell in the show, I had to have someone who read the books semi-explain wtf was going on. I feel changing things is fine, especially with Martin working so close with the show, as the really important stuff is not gonna get glossed over. But at least provide adequate explanation.

From what I remember of Season 2 and what I remember of the books what happened in Winterfell in the show is what happened in the book. Get used to stuff like that. Martin is ruthless when it comes to that kind of stuff. He doesn't care who he kills or what he destroys.

Winterfell is surrounded by what we have to presume is Roose Boltons bastard because we are never told implicitly. Theon gave his speech, got cold cocked by his first mate, they said they were going home. Next thing you know Osha, Hodar and the boys are coming up from the crypts and everything had been torched. By who? When? How did Lewyn manage to crawl injured to the God's Wood while everyone else was killed? How did Theon's men escape? or did they? Yeah it ended up the same way in the book but at least we know who and why.

As I remember in the book Theon and his guys try to run and get caught in the woods near Winterfell. Everyone but Theon gets killed and the Bolton bastard torches Winterfell (though Theon may have done that before he left). I prefer the TV show method where Theon's guys just knock him out. Though I agree that more after that would have been nice.

Ive just seen the trailer for season 3 and it does like its going to be alot different to the book. Im guessing thats Theon Greyjoy getting tortured on the cross which is quite alot different as he vanishes for two books.

If they want to maintain quality & viewers interest then that's exactly what they need to do.

The newest book is rubbish compared to the early ones & at the pace GRRM writes we're unlikely to see the next chapter for a very long time...

There has been some talk of doing a prequel series and the potential of the show going beyond the books, that's probably down to the length of time they take him to write, so yeah I see it going further and further from the books. Especially with him on board, he can kind of look at it now in hindsight and be like, hmmm I should have done this instead and now he can.

Well, from what I saw last night I think I'm right about them really committing to moving away from the books. I get the feeling that certain characters are going to live a lot longer then they did in the books.

Overall I think that is a great idea. The show could end up being much better then the books. However, there are some things that need to stay the same. One thing they changed last night that I wasn't happy with:

Dany really shouldn't know who Barristan Selmy is right away. Her not knowing who he really is and just knowing him as Arstan Whitebeard was pretty important in the books. Still in the long run it really isn't a big deal.

Yeah I don't expect him to. Having said that, I didn't expect Ned Stark to stay in King's Landing's dungeons for very long, and he ended up losing his head... I really like Davos as a character so I hope he doesn't find himself with a similar problem.

Heard that the producers/director of the show just wanted to get to Season 3 as those people that have read the books would know, Book 3 is where all the good stuff happens.

Yeah they've said before if they could get far enough to a certain event that takes place in book three they'd be happy. Of course that doesn't mean they'll stop there

Let's just hope that GRRM doesn't take too long to finish the last books or else the show will catch up to the books.
