Introduction:

Welcome to Portal 2, the highly anticipated sequel to 2007's Game of the Year, developed by VALVE. With more environment interaction, and a brand new Co-op system, Portal 2 will keep you on your toes from start to finish, and even after that. Valve has kept it's promise and made the game more challenging, more fun, and even more hilarious. Now sit down and get ready to feel that sense of accomplishment again, and expect to be laughing the whole way through.

Breakdown:

This game is split up into two sections, Single Player and Co-op. There are no collectible achievements, only level specific achievements, story related achievements and a few misc achievements. You will only need 1 playthrough for each Single Player and Co-op, with a few Course/Chamber replays for Co-op.

Step 1: Playthrough on Single Player

There is no difficulty for Portal 2 so you don't have to worry about that. There is a total of 29 achievements for Single Player worth 475:gsicon:. Out of the 29 achievements, there are 14 story related achievements worth 185:gsicon: and 15 missable achievements worth 290:gsicon:. If you don't want to miss any achievements in Single Player then click HERE for a list of all missable achievements in obtainable order with a video and written explanation for each achievement. You can use the guide below but the achievements are not ordered in obtainable order, so that will make it harder to keep track of when you are going for a certain achievement in a specific level. There are no achievements in Single Player that are carried throughout the campaign so if you do miss any achievements you can use Chapter Select. To use Chapter Select you must choose "New Game".

Step 2: Playthrough on Co-op:

You will most likely want to find a friend who is good for playing through Co-op instead of searching for a stranger. There is a total of 21 achievements in Co-op worth 525:gsicon:. Out of the 21 achievements, there are 6 Co-op story related achievements worth 155:gsicon: and 15 missable achievements worth 370:gsicon:. Every Co-op achievement can be earned offline via Split-screen except 2 achievements. The 2 achievements that have to be online are Friends With Benefits and Professor Portal. If you don't want to miss any achievements in Co-op then click HERE for a list of all missable achievements in obtainable order with a video and written explanation for each achievement.

There is one achievement in Co-op that is carried throughout the Co-op Campaign. The achievement is Asking for Trouble. You have to taunt GLaDOS in front of a camera once in each course (not chamber) so make sure you don't miss that. If you do miss it you can replay any chamber in that course that has a camera and taunt it. If you miss any missable achievements you can go back to the Hub and go to the required course. When you enter the door of the Course there is a wall that disappears and shows you the Chamber that you will start on. Use the arrow keys to choose the chamber you want to start on. If you need to find someone to play Co-op with use this thread HERE. Professor Portal cannot be obtained until you complete every course in Co-op Campaign, meaning you have to have You Saved Science first.

Professor Portal requires you to complete Co-op Campaign and then play the Calibration Course (which can be selected by pressing start in the Hub and choosing Calibration Course) with a friend online who has never played Co-op before. You may have to make another gold account for this or find someone who has never played Co-op before.

Clean Up (Single Player and Co-op):

Once you have finished Single Player and Co-op it is time to rack up any achievements that you may have missed. If you have missed any achievements for Single Player you can use "Chapter Select" if you choose "New Game". If you missed any achievements for Co-op you can go to the Hub and choose any Course and Chamber you want by using the arrow keys.

Conclusion:

After hours and hours of challenges and laughs you should have 1000:gsicon: now! This game is not too hard to 1000 if you know what you are doing and have a friend who is good at the game. If you follow the Roadmap and Achievement Guide you should have no problem getting 1000:gsicon:. Portal 2 is a very fun and hilarious game that is worth playing and worth every achievement point!

Catch a blue-painted box before it touches the ground

Chapter 6: The Fall

Note: Save before attempting this

You will enter a room and there will be a giant glass box with a cube in it. There is also a red button right beside it. You will have to put the repulsion gel on the cube and then the cube will bounce against the glass. Once it breaks though catch the cube before if touches the ground. The cube can bounce against the walls.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0KJB5uCeRs]YouTube - Portal 2 - Schrodinger's Catch Achievement[/ame]

Alternative way:

When you cover the cube with the repulsion gel and hear it cracking the glass, shoot a portal under the water so it washes the repulsion gel off and the cube stops bouncing around. Keep repeating this until at least 1 glass wall breaks. There are 8 in total. When a glass wall is broken go to the side it is broken on. Now use your portals to put some repulsion gel near that side so you can bounce into the glass box. Now grab the cube and the achievement will unlock. Even if it is not painted blue.

Chapter 6: The Fall

You will come to an area where you find GLaDOS as a potato and save her from a bird in the control room which unlocks the Tater Tore Achievement. You can get Ship Overboard before or after doing this. Above the Control room is another room. Shoot your portal on the wall near the catwalk that leads to the room. Go up there and enter the room. There is a secret door in the corner of the room. When you enter the room it is in the corner straight ahead to the left. Enter the door and continue down the hallway and exit the only door open. First you must complete Co-op. So you have to beat all 5 courses with a friend offline or online. After you have done that, you must complete Calibration Course with another friend online who has not played Co-op yet. There are numerous ways to do this. You can do this with the Excursion Tunnel which is by far the easiest. You just sit in the blue gravitational tunnel and do 2 aerial gestures. Or you can lay a portal directly below you and one right above you and keep falling through them and do 2 aerial gestures while your falling. You can also lay two portals on the ground and jump into one from a decent height and just go back and fourth between them. Complete Chamber 3 in the Hard-Light Surfaces co-op course using only 5 total portal placements

Course 3: Hard-Light Surfaces Chamber 3

This achievement requires perfection. You can only use a total of 5 portals. Have one person only use the portals. You will have to lay 3 portals in the first room. Follow the directions of what portals to use so you don't make a mistake. The first portal (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/lt.png) will be place against the wall to the left in the beginning of the course. If you walk up to the edge and look straight, The second portal (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/rt.png) you want to place will be on the left wall out in the distance. You will see two rectangles where you can place your portals on. You will want to place your second portal on the farther one, right in the middle so it lines up with where the ball will drop out of.

Once you have those two portals placed, have the other player walk slowly through the portal so he is halfway through each one. This player will now want to fall on the Hard-Light Bridge below him. He can die as many times as he wants. When he has done that, the other player will want to walk through his portal so he is halfway through as well. He will now was to place his third portal (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/lt.png) on the wall where the Hard-Light Bridge is touching. If done correctly you will now be standing on the Hard-Light Bridge. Have the person below who is near the button press the button. The person above will catch the ball and but it in the spot where the ball goes. Make sure you don't walk through the door with the shield until your partner gets there.

In the next area you will only have 2 portal placements left. The person who is placing the portals, walk towards the Aerial Faith Plate. Now line yourself up with it. Go as far as you can to the right (against the wall) and as close as you can against the water without falling in. Now look straight up and you will see a long rectangle you can place portals on and within that long rectangle are a bunch of rectangle squares. Place a portal (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/lt.png) on the second square to the right, right in the middle. Now place your other portal (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/rt.png) on the wall the Hard-Light Bridge is touching. Now you will have the Bridge on an angle straight in front of the Aerial faith plate. This next part applies to both people, but the person with the portal placements has to do this first try. The other player can attempt this as much as he wants.

Line yourself straight with the Aerial Faith Plate. If you look down you will see a line you can line yourself up with. Now do a 90 degree turn to the right. Now you want to move to the left towards the Aerial Faith plate. Right when you touch the Aerial Faith Plate hold forward and you will be launched towards the angled Hard-Light Bridge and bounce towards the door. The achievement will unlock once both people have done this.

Drop your co-op partner in goo while they are gesturing by removing the bridge under them

Have your partner stand on a Hard-light Bridge that is controlled from your portal that is above water. Tell your partner to do a gesture and when he is in the middle of his gesture shoot a portal somewhere else so that he falls to his death. Achievement unlocked. The first time you encounter hard-light bridges is in Course 3: Hard-Light Surfaces. The first time you can go for this achievement is in Chamber 1.

Find the hidden companion cube in co-op test chamber

Course 4: Excursion Funnels Chamber 9.

Note: Going for this achievement means certain death

The Companion Cube is right before the end of the Chamber. Continue playing the chamber normally until you have to use the Hard-Light Bridge to knock the turrets off balance so you can make your way across safely. On the opposite side of where you would lay the portal to do that is a tunnel that goes to nowhere. You will want to lay your Hard-Light Bridge close enough so that it will continue down that tunnel. It would be best to do this while you are in the Excursion Funnel against the wall and you can't move. Now once you have your Hard-Light Bridge placed properly have the other person shoot their Excursion Funnel below so you fall into the Excursion Funnel and glide your war to the Hard-Light Bridge. Now you will be pinned against the Hard-Light Bridge. Have the person with the Excursion Funnel shoot their portal right to the left where the Hard Light Bridge portal is. You will no go down the tunnel and if you look at the wall to your left (facing the direction you're going) you will see the wall open up and reveal the Companion Cube and the achievement will unlock.

Place a portal under your co-op partner while they are gesturing

This can be done pretty much anywhere. Have your friend stand over a surface where you can shoot a portal. Now shoot a portal somewhere else. Have your friend gesture and then shoot a portal below them while they are gesturing and achievement unlocked.

Taunt GLaDOS in front of a camera in each of the five co-op courses

You must taunt GLaDOS at least once in each of the five co-op course. This means you only need to do it a total of 5 times. You do not need to do it for every chamber, only every course. You can do any gesture you want so wave, dance, or taunt her. You will know that it counts because you will see yourself through the camera's feedback.

Win 3 co-op games of rock-paper-scissors in a row

You must win 3 games or rock-paper-scissors in a row in co-op. Only one person needs to have the gesture for this and both people can get the achievement. This achievement is purely based on luck of the draw. There is no way to choose what you want. You just have to keep playing until you win 3 in a row. If you lose your streak resets. If you tie your streak stays the same.

While playing co-op, hug 3 different people on your friends list

You have to hug 3 different people that are on your friends list. You can use the achievement trading thread of play with your actualy friends. Another alternative is to search for randoms and add them as a friend. Then quit back to the main menu and then start up a game again with your new friend. If you don't do that it will still count them as a stranger. You first unlock Hug at the end of Course 3: Hard-Light Surfaces Chamber 8.

Enter 4 different portals without touching the ground in co-op

The easiest way to do this is to have 2 portals from one player on the ground (preferably close to each other). You will then want the player who has the portals down to jump into one of the portals from a decent height. This way the player will keep going through the portals back and forth. The other play will shoot his own two portals in the exact same spot where the other two portals were. Make sure you wait until he just exits one so you have more time. Once the player goes through both portals again he will get the achievement. A good spot to do this is Course 3: Hard-Light Surfaces Chamber 5. Another good spot to do this is Course 5: Mobility Gels Chamber 4.

Solve 3 co-op chambers in the Mass and Velocity course in under 60 seconds each

You have to complete a total of 3 co-op chambers in Course 2: Mass and Velocity in under 60 seconds each. This does NOT have to be in a row or in 1 playthrough. You can do 2 Chambers and leave that course and come back and do another Chamber later. They just all have to be different Chambers.

Chamber 1, 2, and 3 are the easiest. Just learn how to do each of them and have your partner and you remember your roles.

Complete Course 4 with neither you nor your co-op partner dying

Course 4: Excursion Funnels Chambers 1-9.

This achievement is easier than it sounds. You just have to know how to do each chamber and you should be fine. Once you know how to complete each chamber without problems it should be easy. If you can't find a good team mate you can always do this split-screen and it is pretty easy in split-screen. There is only 1-2 parts that are a bit hard. Take your time and don't fool around. This also has to be done in one playthrough. You have to start on Chamber 1 and complete all 9 Chambers in a row without dying.

Dance in front of a turret blocked by a hard light bridge in co-op

You need to be in the shooting range of a turret, but have a Hard-Light Bridge blocking the turret from shooting you. Then you have to dance (you can perform any gesture) and the achievement will unlock. The first time you can do this is Course 3: Hard-Light Surfaces Chamber 6. It's right at the beginning. In the beginning of Course 4: Excursion Funnels Chamber 9 you can also do this.

Chapter 6: The Fall

There are 6 doors in total on this chapter that you have to examine. They are in sets of 3 so 2 sets in total. The first set is when you go up the elevator/lift with all the stairs surrounding it. In the distance at the top of the lift is a place you can shoot your portal. Go up there and press X on each intercom.

The next 3 are in near the area where you find GLaDOS as a potato and save her from a bird in the control room which unlocks the Tater Tote Achievement. You can find these 3 doors before or after doing this. Above the Control room is another room. Shoot your portal on the wall near the catwalk that leads to the room. Go up there and enter the room. There is a secret door in the corner of the room. When you enter the room it is in the corner straight ahead to the left. Enter the door and continue down the hallway. There are 3 doors you have to examine. After you examine the last one the achievement will unlock.

There is a gate to your left that is locked. Shoot your portal behind the gate on the empty wall and another portal on the wall ahead of you. Enter the room and stay in there until GLaDOS talks. The achievement will then unlock. If nothing happens after a while leave and re-enter the room.

Never lose a cube in Chamber 6 of the Mass and Velocity co-op course

Course 2: Mass and Velocity Chamber 6

There are 2 areas in this chamber. The first area with the first cube does not matter because that cube can't be loss (unless you press the button twice). The second area the cube can fall in the water and this is the area where you have to time it out right.

One person is going to stay by the buttons and the other person is going to take the Aerial Faith Plate to the other side. When that person is on the other side, place 2 portals on the platforms behind the team mate standing by the button. Now the person on the opposite side of the button is going to want to take the Aerial Faith Plate. When he is halfway to the next Aerial Faith Plate (the one that is surrounded by water) the other person wants to hit the button. If times correctly you should have a head on collision with the cube and automatically grabbing it. Now you want to go back to the other side with the cube and place it on the switch. Once you have done the achievement should unlock.

Haven't read the whole thing yet, but 1 suggestion I think you should do is put all the achievements in order, kind of like the other guide. In order I mean list all the achievements by chapter, so like list all chapter 1 achievements then 2, ect. And split up co-op achievements from single player. Sorry if you had already planned to do this, just making a few suggestions.

Estimated achievement difficulty: 5/10 (Depends on skill)

-Glitchy achievements: Friends List With Benefits, Obstacle Building, Bridge Building, Confidence Building, & Team Building

All the thing I would change are all bolded. Difficulty does depend on a persons skill. If they are not a puzzle person then this game will be a bit tougher. If at all anything I would go with a 5 and not a 4. Also on the glitchy achievements, Obstacle Building, Bridge Building, Confidence Building, & Team Building you don't get untill you return to the hub after you beat the course. I found this out when someone left during the loading screen after beating course three and it didn't register the achievement till I went back into co-op with someone else and went into the hub. Also friends List with benefits me and a few others didn't get the achievements untill 4 or 5 people on our friends list where hugged.

You could (you might've already done this - haven't read the whole thing yet) link the video/missible achievements thread from here.

EDIT: haha, nevermind. You already did in the beginning. Don't know how I missed it.

Thanks I will take that into consideration when I edit my guide later. Though I dont think the achievements you listed count as glitchy except maybe the friends with benefits. But you still get the achievement in the end.

But I can't edit my guide right now because my computer is really slow since im uploading more videos. So I will do that first thing tomorrow! or maybe second thing. or third thing >.>

Ahh that is why I made another thread with video and written explanations with all missable achievement in order of appearance. I have the guide like this because when I submit it I have to submit it like this.

When you're submitting a guide you have to use the Submit forum, and the achievements have to be in order that you have them in, yes. But if you want your guide to be easier to read for people that are going to use it in this forum then wouldn't it be better to have them organized? Unless I'm completely wrong about the guide submission.

Instead of complaining about the way you have your guide I will take the time to say "Thank You" composing a guide isnt easy. I appreciate the time you took to do this for me and for the rest of the commumity.

To people asking to organize this you can use the EDIT > Find On This Page!

Thanks you I appreciate that. It does take a while to make a guide. And I have actually put a lot of effort into this guide specifically because I made a video for each missable achievement and made another thread with all achievements in order.

I dont think they understand that I am writing my achievement guide from the point of view from someone who is reading it up on the main site. Because they won't be able to see the achievements in order. That is why I made a separate thread and will link it to this guide.

  • Constructive Criticism is always welcome :)
  • Please keep your posts clean.
  • Any help is greatly appreciated.
  • Post your thoughts on where you would like to see more info added.

If you don't want help or not good at taking criticism from people just making suggestions in a nice manner, then why say what I quoted. Its not complaining, I appreciate the effort you put into the guide, its just ways you can improve your guide I think that people would find useful when coming to this thread.

I don't know how the whole submitting a guide works, but from what I've read it looks like you make a thread in the Submit forum when the achievements have to be in order the way they are on the achievement page, so in this thread you can have it a way where people can follow it easily without happening to look all around for an achievement. Again its Constructive Criticism, not hate or complaining, it is still up to you what to do, I just think even though your achievement are more detail then the other guide its not as clean and straight forward.

I dont understand what you are talking about. I appreciate help and can take criticism whether it is constructive or not. I never hated or said anything rude to you or anyone as far as I'm concerned. My guide is very clean, but yes it is not straight forward in the sense of having the achievements ordered in the order you obtain them. And the reason being is because I am writing it from the point of view from someone who sees it at the main site and not here on the forums. Because on the main site the achievements will be listed like this. And I appreciate your advice earlier on, but I already have it layed out nicely in another post which I linked in the roadmap. So its best of both worlds in my opinion. I have it layed out in the format where I have to submit it, but I also have it layed out in the order you can obtain them in another thread. Have you not seen my other thread?

Edit:

Here I added something right before the guide begins for people who don't read the Roadmap.

Note: If you skipped the Roadmap and did not read it, then read this. If you don't want to miss any achievements click HERE for a thread with video and written explanations of all missable achievements in the order you can obtain them.

This should make it easy for people who want the achievements in order.
