Does Xbox360 support MKV vidoe file?

It seems like my console cannot detect MKV video file at all.

It doesn't pick up any MKV files for me either- I use AVI's instead, but sometimes it won't run specific AVI files and I have no idea why; anyone have any ideas? I would assume they all use the same codecs if they're the same type of file but perhaps that's not the case, I'm not tech savvy enough to understand the problem.
