UPDATED 3/27/2013

I'm not really a guide person, but I felt the desire to create one for FFXI since the one created by razzleson is VERY outdated. The level cap is now 99, however none of the achievements reflect against any levels above 75 or content released with the level caps above 75. Without further adieu:

Overview:

-Estimated Achievement Difficulty: 5~7/10

-Offline: 0

-Online: 57

-Approximate amount of time to 1250: 6 months~2 years [uPDATED 3/27/2013]

-Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 1

-Number of missable achievements: 0

-Do cheat codes disable achievements?: N/A

-Does difficulty affect achievements?: N/A

-Glitchy achievements: none

-Unobtainable achievements: none

-Extra equipment needed?: no (but a keyboard would certainly make things much easier)

Introduction:

Welcome to the Final Fantasy XI 1250http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg roadmap. The game isn't necessarily a hard game, but is extremely time consuming, and heavily relies on having friends join you to accomplish quite a bit of the achievements on this list. The game does require its own subscription fee, though does not require XBox Live Gold in order to connect online.

I mention getting a keyboard for the 360, mainly for one reason:

[uPDATED 3/27/2013] The chat pad does indeed work, but it is weird. To use any capital letters, shift won't work. You will need to set Caps Lock in order to input any capital letters. Also, in order to make any of the green light symbols, you will need to hit the method twice - the green light toggles the User Interface in the game, so hitting it the first time takes the UI away. Hit the symbol you want anyway (it won't input) so that you can hit the green light again for the UI to come back and the green light lit up to actually input that symbol. To me, these two things about the chat pad are just annoying enough to warrant an actual keyboard. Both are 'extra equipment' that are not necessary to play the game, but you won't get too far into the group-based events without some kind of communication method.

Having said that, the game can be a lot of fun if you have a lot of patience and perseverance. There are plenty of things to do outside of the achievements, so much that it can seem a bit overwhelming trying to take it in all at once. Since its release, the game has seen quite a bit of updates and enhancements, keeping the gameplay fresh and exciting for even the FFXI veteran.

On to why you're here: Achievements! Every achievement is listed as secret. None of them are spoilers, so you can rest assured looking at them won't spoil anything for you. Achievements don't unlock as you play like an achievement would normally in any other game. Instead, once you have met the requirements for the achievement, you must talk to an NPC dressed as a Bard who can change your character's title. On the XBox360 version of the game only, there will be an extra option to unlock any achievements you have pending to unlock. Since the game saves your character data to the server, and is multi-regional and multi-platform, this opens up a variety of platforms you're able to play on without hindering your achievement progress.

For instance, you could attain level 75 Warrior on the PC, then complete the Windurst rank missions on the PS2, then jump on 360 and unlock the achievements for both. You can unlock any achievement you like at any time while on the 360, no matter which platform you achieved the requirement on.

[uPDATED 3/27/2013] For reference to everything you could ever ask about the game, consult some of the unofficial (most popular) wiki sites:

http://www.ffxiclopedia.org - all links in this guide will link to pages from this site.

http://wiki.bluegartr.com/

http://ffxi.gamerescape.com/wiki/Main_Page

Step 1: Job Levels.

There are 20 jobs to level to 75, for a total of 600http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg. As the achievements suggest, simply get Lv75 with each corresponding job. There are some hurdles along the way in the form of level caps and quests to unlock them - which start at level 50 and continue to block your path every 5 levels from there. Luckily, you only need to do a level cap quest once on any job to raise the level cap for all jobs. With the help of your friends, you can form a party to earn experience points. Alternatively, you can go it alone with various solo-helpful aspects of the game like Fields of Valor.

[uPDATED 3/27/2013] There are now 22 jobs available with the 2 jobs included with the Seekers of Adoulin expansion. Rune Fencer and Geomancer. These two jobs are not a part of the achievement list. yet...?

Step 2: Story.

There are 9 story-related achievements for a total of 300http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg. The main game gets three for its national ranks, then each expansion gets its own achievement.

There are two extra achievements for doing unnecessary portions of optional story. This includes Breaker of the Chains (20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg), and Past Vana'diel Nation Quests (20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg).

[uPDATED 3/27/2013] The 5th expansion, Seekers of Adoulin, is excluded from this list.

Step 3: Solo-ish Achievements

There are 22 achievements for a total of 180http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg that you can obtain on your own without necessarily requiring the help of your comrades. This includes all of the 5http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg achievements, in addition to Medal of Altana (30http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg), and Synthesis Skill 100 (50http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg). These are all fairly straight-forward and easy to get.

The real trouble is getting the achievements for your level cap quests for job levels 50 and 55: Horizon Breaker (5 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg) and Summit Breaker (5http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg). Since you can only complete the quest once, and you cannot attain a higher level until you do, you will be stuck fighting monsters that are tougher than you for both of these quests.

Step 4: Group Events

Finally, there are 6 achievements for a total of 170http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg that require you to have a group to complete, as the difficulty of the monsters is too great even for Lv99. Hopefully by the time you hit Lv75 you've found yourself a nice array of friends and a linkshell to call home to get some of these rewarding raid-like instances complete.

Conclusion:

Final Fantasy XI is a challenging yet highly rewarding game in both game content and story. The achievements are nothing too strenuous, but definitely take a lot of time and effort to go for 100%. There is a lot to take in and consider when shooting for any one achievement, enough to feel overwhelmed when looking at the big 100% picture. [uPDATED 3/27/2013] Keep in mind that Abyssea, Voidwatch, Legion, and the entire expansion of Seekers of Adoulin are not a part of this achievement list, as well as many other aspects of the game not listed here.

I would not recommend this game just for the achievements, but rather use the achievements as a good checklist of things to do while you enjoy playing the game.

If you're on the Carbuncle server, give me a /tell. I'm Retsujo ^^

Step 1: Job levels

http://tiles.xbox.com/tiles/jV/mM/04CLiGJhbC9ECgULGgEfXyc1L2FjaC8wLzgwMDAAAAAA5+fn-KNZkw==.jpgLevel 75 Bard (30)

Achieved level 75 as a Bard.

A Bard (BRD) uses songs as the job's main advantage to boost the party's stats. Bards have many songs but only three non-meritable Job Abilities. A bard without an instrument or a player with the support job bard can only keep one song up at a time, as opposed to instrument players that can use two. A party with multiple bards may stack more than 2 songs on the party as long as they are not the same song.

The Bard job is available after completing the quest Path of the Bard.

You must level Bard to 75 for this achievement.

Achieved level 75 as a Beastmaster.

Beastmasters (BST) are generally considered the best solo job in the game. Beastmasters often can be found soloing monsters or teaming up with other Beastmasters in all-Beastmaster parties. Beastmasters are less frequently found in conventional parties. In a conventional party, a Beastmaster will most frequently fill the roles of damage dealer and puller, and augment their damage with "Jug Pets". Jug pets do not lower the experience points gained by a party. Additionally, charmed animals and monsters which check as Even Match or lower will not penalize the experience points for a party. When soloing, it is very important that a Beastmaster select the proper camp.

The Beastmaster job is available after completing the quests Save My Son and Path of the Beastmaster.

You must level Beastmaster to 75 to unlock this achievement.

Note that you will need to ally yourself with a nation in the past in order to start doing nation story quests. However, once you ally yourself with one nation, all three national story quests will become available no matter who you're allied with.

Step 3: Solo-ish Achievements

http://tiles.xbox.com/tiles/jV/mM/04CLiGJhbC9ECgULGgEfXyc1L2FjaC8wLzgwMDAAAAAA5+fn-KNZkw==.jpgSynthesis Skill 100 (50)

Achieved 100 in a synthesis skill or fishing.

UPDATE: They have raised the base cap of all crafts to 70 with a new high cap of 110. Post reflected on that.

Crafting in FFXI is the means of which you create items and equipment to use on your travels.

There are eight crafts you can take up (nine if you count fishing), and you can only take one of them to 100 - with the exception of fishing. You can take fishing to 100 and have it not count against the other eight crafts' levels. All other crafts will cap at 70 if you take one of them to 110 high cap. Taking one to 100 is the only requirement for the achievement, though dabbing in a few others will help you with your recipes along the way.

Synergy is a new (and 10th) form of crafting introduced to the game and is in no way related to this achievement.

For more information on the various crafts, refer to this list.

Obtained the key item "Ballista License."

Ballista is one of the forms of Conflict (pvp) in Final Fantasy XI. Ballista is based upon San d'Orian military training exercises that involve participants digging up small stones called Petras to toss into goals called Rooks scattered around the battlefield.

Ballista is FFXI's version of an MMO's PvP. It's not very popular, and doesn't hold much of a candle to other MMORPGs PvP systems, but it can be fun with some friends. Getting the license itself is a simple task. You need only be rank 3 in your nation then talk to some NPCs in each nation.

Great guide! I just got back after 3 years and I am thinking of trying the 1250... by the way, I have a relic weapon, Mandau, and this do not unlock the achievement, I tryed everything, so try to search someone who has the new relic set "Empyrean" and see what heapens, I think the achievement is for that kind of weapon.

martin relic wpn or empyrean wpn isn't an achievement. I can also confirm this guide is 100% correct as i have 1250/1250 :). I just wish they added more achievements this game is just so damn good!!

Well thats good to know, the last guide actualy listed an achiv for relic weapon (40gs) but I think it was mistaken with the "complete wotg missions" that was impossible at the time since the missions wasnt complete yet.

I have about 750gs by now, the levels achievements will not be a huge problem, just time consumig, but I think I will have to wait to lv cap 99 to finish dynamis tavnazia, its so hard...

They might add some more achievements if another expansion come out, but they dont seem to care much about the xbox 360 community, they are more focused on PC since the last 6 add ons never came to retail on 360.

Doubtful, the Achievements that exist were the same ones that were implemented when the 360 version came to be. There are so few people who even 1k'd this game, its not really worth the effort to make more cheevos.

And all the add ons DID go retail for the 360. Like the PC, there are "20XX Collection" that come out with all the then current add on/expansions. But people are likely to buy them online, since they are already online playing the game. Retail is so 20th century.

If i remember correctly need minimum 4 or 6 people to do ballista. That one was a hard one for me i had to 3 box and got a couple of mates to help. It's a very annoying achievement, also i did it in one ballista just got a massive win like 30 to 0 and that put me first

I don't know if it's still the case but when the achievements first were added to the game, several achievements were unlockable without needing to have what the achievement asks for. Such as the 100 skill craft.

But that was years ago, I still play this game and the achievements are really easy to get now. The hardest one might be the ballista one.

It's really easy/fast to get 75 now, and with the level cap raised and level restrictions in missions erased; most are easy to do.

If anyone is still thinking of doing this game my advice would be:

Start WHM, Get Bard and level it to 75 as it will be the easiest job

Level Ninja and dancer for subjob to do most of the rest achievements easily.

Ninja will be useful for Tanking (everyone needs a tank), and you will be able to solo easily.

Bard will be incredibly easy to level and make friends as everyone loves bards.

The 100 should be easier now as it has gotten cheaper to level this skills, and easier.

For the Ballista one, it's kind of tricky as not many people do Ballista anymore. Your best bet is to find a ballista linkshell/group in your server.

The Ballista one is actually one of the easiest, if you follow this guide.

I would say the hardest one to get is Synthesis Skill 100, as it really takes the most effort.

Since Every job needs to be levelled to at least 75 for their individual achievements, it won't matter what you level first. Level a bit of everything, find a few of the jobs you like, and take those jobs past 75. Every job is essentially useful, but there are certain jobs like mentioned above that are more popular.

Bards are not as popular as they used to be. Trust me, I am one. My White Mage gets more love than my Bard. :p

Things of note:

If ever there was a 10/10 difficulty game, this is it. Lets not kid ourselves. 2+ years to get through at 12 hours a day, and still no assurances you will get a full 1250? It is unreasonable to expect anything less.

I have never beaten Dynamis-Xarcabard. I have been in the zone many times. I have the achievement "Dynamis-Xarcabard Interloper" Dunno if this was changed with the new dynamis changes or not. I unlocked it when checking a for different achievement on 4/2/2011. I had been in the zone many times before then, but had not seen the option to unlock it before.
