Autolog Connection Problem

I just bought Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit last week and I haven't been able to play a single game. After I press start in the title intro screen, I'm brought to a black screen that says...

Connecting to Autolog Servers...
Starting Autolog in connected mode

...and I've been there for the past few hours. I've done what I could with it, but I'm still lost. No matter what I do, I can't connect and I can't play. Any help would be appreciated.
