HELP! Hook up audio to stereo with HDMI cable in?
Hey all!
I just bought an HDMI cable. I used to run my RCA Xbox cables to my stereo (white and red to stereo, yellow to TV) so I could get my surround sound in on the action. Now that I have the cable, I have no connection to my stereo. What is the best way to hook up my surround with the HD cable plugged in? Sorry if this seems stupid. I'm not a huge tech guy ahaha. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Does your TV have audio outputs ? I have HDMI cable connect to the TV and optical cable from TV to stereo.

Yeah it does. So I can just run a cable from the TV to the stereo you say? Makes sense. Thank you!

It does make sense...unfortunately due to stupid HDCP (copy protection) rules, it's likely you'll only be passing 2 channel stereo sound to your surround sound receiver if you go from the TV's optical audio out to your receiver.
If you have the video adapter that has optical audio out on it, you can just rip off the plastic cover so both it and an HDMI cable will fit. If you don't have that, you'll have to buy Microsoft's adapter to use both optical audio and HDMI at the same time. This is all assuming you have the older style of Xbox. The "S" model allows for both either way. |
