Hopefully with Star Wars: The Old Republic EA will continue to let Bioware do its own thing for a little while longer. It was crap what they did to Pandemic.

I agree...it is designed to get multiple playthroughs, and as such many people feel like they have to invest too much time. My son hates it, I love it....

The glitches are pretty distracting. But hey, Kevin Bacon is a bonus....lol! MR

I absolutely loved this game. It's without a doubt one of the most engaging and emotion packed adventures I've experienced, I was addicted and enthralled for every single minute. Honestly, who could care so much about graphics or AI when you've got such a lucrative story at your fingertips, let alone one that you can more or less completely mold to your own will?

Finished it last weekend and have to say that while it wasn't AAA I've played games that are a lot worse than this. Enjoyed the way the story played out and had real consequences and spent a good couple of hours in one sitting on the final missions. For those that over-look the game that is their loss.

I'd have to agree with you. I really enjoyed this game. Grated I didn't take advantage of the well built stealth system (i'm more of a run n gun type) but I thought it was pretty well made. The only thing I didn't care for was the graphics.

I can understand criticisms of AP's graphics, poor shooting gameplay, and overall glitchiness. However, the game's story, conversation system, and replay value were so good that I played through the game 4 different times to see just how much I could change the story, and loved every second of it. It is a shame that there won't be a sequel due to poor sales, but Alpha Protocol has been one of the best video gaming experiences of the year for me. Oh yeah, and if you didn't think that the Konstantin Brako fight was awesome then something is seriously wrong with you.

I rather enjoyed the game, it reminded me of those choose your own adventure books, if they only had more mature themes, and better dialogue.

So I promised BlueProtoss I'd come back and talk about the game once I actually got to play it. This seemed to be the place to do so.
I assume I'm about 1/3rd of the way through the game by now, having completed all of the Middle East, all of Rome and I just started the first few Russian missions. I'm a little torn between liking and hating this game. I'm trying to like it, I really am. I love the game's story, the characters, the dialog system, the voice acting (except for freaking Michael Thorton. Emotions. Try them.) and the overall concept. Hell, I've been waiting for someone to make this styled game for a long time. And then... the game asks me to actually play it. And everything I love about the game comes crashing down. First things first: The gunplay is awful. Yes, I understand it's trying to be more RPG the shooter. The problem is that putting RPG over shooter in a third-person shooter doesn't work on any level. It's downright infuriating when a perfectly lined up shot passes through an enemies head because the invisible dice roll said so. The only way I ever seem to be able to hit an enemy with the pistol is through the critical shot system, which I also can't stand. Who's idea was it to make it so you have to sit still and aim at the enemy with no movement at all? It really drives me nuts. I mean, I have other issues with the game as well. The boring "mash B until the enemy dies" melee combat. The piss poor graphics. The annoying aiming sight that eats up the whole screen. The constant little glitches. The horrible enemy AI. The cover system that never works. It's just things like these that bring such an excellent concept, such a wonderful story down. I'm hoping the game gets better later in, though I doubt some of these problems will be resolved. I'm enjoying the game, until it actually wants me to play. Then I have problems. |

Oh please god don't give AP 2 to Bioware, ME 2 was a complete disappointment. Loyalty missions, for characters I would have rather put down? Really? Seriously? The only good thing about ME2 was they improved the wheel, that's it. I couldn't even finish my 3rd playthrough, cause if I had to look at Miranda and Jack for another minute I was going to explode. No matter what Shep said to Ashley same outcome. ME, descisions meant absolutely nothing, except to get someones head cut off in a door at the end, which I did to Jack, and sent Miranda in the vents so she would die of heat exhaustion. Anything to insure those two don't show up in my ME3.
Ok, I will get bashed on this one as well, Singlularity, hated that game. Boring, boring, boring. Red Dead Redemption oh please, that was the most painful game I ever tried to play. About as exciting as watching paint dry. However, I must admit I totally dislike Westerns genre, regardless of media. I put AP above all of the above games. That game made me laugh, smile, and gave me stealth I have been thirsty for since Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. |

So now that I've actually finished the game... I'm still sitting in the "it was alright, but nothing special" camp. Sure, the story was awesome and all, but a good story can only keep me going for so long. I love how the game's story completely changes depending on what you do though, and that kept me interested the most.
And, just like I said before, the minute the game asks me to actually shoot things or to sneak around it all falls apart. The gameplay really needed to be refined, and the game could really have used a good glitch hunt as I keep seeming to run into little glitches. |

Personally, this game has been a very disappointing experience. The AI was horribly programmed, the rpg element was a refreshing change of pace, the weapons for some reason lack in accuracy department, espeically the sniper rifle (sorry but when i have the crosshair on someone point blank and pull the trigger i expect them to die), character customization could have been more in depth. Personally i rate this a 3/10

Agree with the OP. I wish there was more visual customization but the stats were in depth and made an actual difference in game.

Also, Omen's invisibility and super-speed also fits under the whole WoW powers thing as well. :P |

This is one of my favorite games on the 360. I really hope that they do make a second one...although I'm not sure if they can bring Mike Thorton back, considering how many endings there are.

my opinion is that there is nothing wrong with this game and taking into account that its a vast non linear RPG it is as polished as it can be. Personally I never found any bugs in this game that would distract me from playing.
AI responded as it should. The only things I disliked were a mater of personal opinion really. They are as follows: bosses while holding a gun always run in to do melee combat that does insane damage. I don't get that. the hacking/lockpickng is bad, until you realize that you better off just buying EMPs and skipping that part all together. The rest of the game and the things that matter the most in an RPG - the story the characters and the most important gameplay are all outstanding. |

that said, i am enjoying the stealth run a whole lot more than the run'n'gun approach. i didn't realize how good stealth combined with pistols can be. and max level shadow operative? pure tastiness. i can get rid of SO many guards in the 30 seconds it gives me.

I'm glad you enjoyed AP esdpecially when you gave it a chance. The pistol is dealdy especially when paired up with Stealth. Chain Shot and complete Invisibility equals Ownage. Last edited by Blueprotoss; 10-23-2010 at 06:20 PM. |

You know, I decided not to buy this game, but one of my co-workers was hyped up about it for a year before its release. He finished it and said it was awesome and we thought he was just trying to convince himself the game was worth it.
He let me borrow it, and I must say, this game is a lot more fun that most people say it is. I liked this more than mass effect even! Nothing beats going ninja and stabbing 5 people in a row .

I think the game is a good gamer overall. Certainly not worth $60 when it first came out, but now that it's reduced it's a great pickup. Multiple playthroughs with all the choices make it fun to mess around and see what kind of responses and dialogue you can get. After you see most of it though the replay-ability drops. I was happy with it though, got it for Christmas

I've owned this game for a while now, the first time I played I shut it off before finishing the tutorial stage in the med bay. But today I just said "Screw it" and started it up again for some achievements. I've got to say , I should have kept going the first time. This game is actually a lot of fun and once you get used to how the gadgets, gun and armor upgrades and your skills work, then it's even better. Stealth is a pain in the ass, that's what I'm doing now but still a lot of good times. The story element, the most important element, has been great so far. I regret not giving this game a far chance the first time.

Well, i got this game for £8, and i have to say, i love this game, i dont know why people hate this game. They obviously havent given it a chance. Games arnt always about graphics, although it is nice to have something to look at. Im nearly finished Alpha Protocol and i will definitely be playing through it again!
