Favourite "Unknown" Bands/Artists
Im re-posting this, as the first time, I put it the wrong part of the forums, letting nobody see it...
So, I thought it would be really good to share our tastes in music, but through music most people wouldnt have heard. Theres not really a criteria here, but if none of their videos have over 1,000,000 views on YouTube, you can assume they are unknown. I pride myself in finding lots of music and talent on YouTube so I thought I would share with others my findings, and see some others as well. Josiah Leming: Amazingly talented young fellow. He writes his own songs, and they are quite meaningful if you pay attention to the lyrics. One of my favourite artists ever. Video: YouTube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/ohjaimes78 Horizons (Ontario): Great heavy rock band with 2 vocalists, including a screamer. I think they're a quite talented local band slowly rising. If youre into the more heavy stuff, you will enjoy this. Check the song out. Theyre also coming out with a music video soon, and it looks to be really good. Video: Honourable Mention: (2,500,000 views on YouTube, semi-popular) The Medic Droid: Their genre would fall under "other". Emo rock with electronica music, is the best way to describe it. Theyre a myspace band, but worth listening to. Video: (Fast forward to 0:30) Share your videos here too, and comment about other's posts.

Horizon is not Heavy, and their live show sucks ass. Seen them when they played with One Divided awhile back. Wanted to punch the main vocalist in the face.
Oh, and I paused Grailknights to listen to the others, very displeased with you right now >=/. *unpauses* Edit: I should stay on topic to, one moment, grabbing a link Hell, I was going to think of a local band, but fuck it, I'll stick with Grailknights since nobody this side of the ocean knows about them. Sir Optimus Prime (The green knight) - Vocals, Guitar Mac Death (The red Knight) - Vocals, Bass Lord Lightbringer (The blue Knight) - Guitar, Vocals Duke Of Drumington (The yellow Knight) - Drums Together they are, the greatest superheroes to ever grace this industry. The "unknown" band I'm listening to the most right now is VersaEmerge. They're releasing their first full album on June 22nd. They're starting to get some major attention now that their vocals front runner is Sierra Kusterbeck. Probably doesn't hurt that she's hot. Ehhh sex appeal. |

Some bands I like that I guess you could consider "unknown" are: the KGB, Steriogram, New Found Glory, Billy Talent, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (haha I hate country but <3 them)

I don't think New Found Glory and Billy Talent could really fall into an unknown category. They've both enjoyed quite a bit of mainstream success.

Ahimsa Sunrise is a local post-hardcore band from my area in nearby DuBois, PA. They have a style similar to A Skylit Drive, with a bit more of a metalcore feel to some songs. A bunch of great guys, and I shared the stage with them on more than one occasion, I really want them to go far.
Texas in July is another group of homegrown PA boys from Lancaster County. They have a similar style to August Burns Red, which is one of my favorite bands. TiJ is growing in popularity, I believe. I first saw them at a local show in Pittsburgh, with another band, which is now defunct, which I'm going to discuss next. I last saw them a couple months ago in Pittsburgh with Unearth. Neocracy is another local metal band from Brookville, PA. I've seen them more times than I can count. Great guys to get drunk with. |

You clearly don't understand the point of this thread. The only "huge" bands mentioned would be NFG and perhaps Billy Talent. Unknown doesn't mean literally unknown. It means a band or artist that is not mainstream. You are off your rocker if you actually think that Horizons, Grailkinghts, and Texas in July are "huge."

Well unknown to me would be a band thats dos'nt have many fans,no one really knows about and they are not on a label or play on big tours pretty simple.
If billy talent is "unknown" also nfg then i guess metallica, slipknot, nickelback etc are unknown because for starters billy talent plays 20,000+ people venues all over canada, usa, europe and there on pretty much every awards show there is these days. "It means a band or artist that is not mainstream" In that case the whole metal, hardcore, post hardcore etc scenes are unknown as none of those are mainstream at all. & i never said horizons or texas in july are "huge" i said half the bands posted are thought aka billy talent, nfg. |

Assuming you listened before their latest album, Brain Thrust Mastery is really good. Their upcoming album sounds good so far. Comes out either the 14th or 15th of this month.

But with the point, these guys are from my home town. My old band played shows them all the time when they were called The Killer Apathy, their old vocalist lives on the same street I do, [he was in the band same time as Garrett, current vocalist, used to do duel vocals.] I can't walk through the mall without seeing one of them when they aren't on tour, or seeing one of them walk down the street with their girlfriend. Not trying to be that elitist "I-knew-these-guys-before-they-were-signed" douche bag, just simpily trying to make the point that everyone around here knows of them, so are they "unknown?" To some I would suppose, but they'll be huge before they know it, and with a spot on the Scream The Prayer tour this year, everyone should know who they are. Haha. They deserve it, too. But that's my point good, or not. =P OT: Good band some people might not know.. Clinging To Trees Of A Forest Fire, their 2nd full length, debut on Prosthetic Records, "Songs Of Ill-Hope And Desperation," comes out in like a week. It's leaked.. but buy it! myspace.com/clingingtothetreesofaforestfire |

The British band Arnold were quite good. Recorded two albums in the late 90's and then disappeared. I also like Clinic, but they are a bit well known I believe.

Here's some more that I know:
Early Man - Death is the Answer Poison the Well - Nerdy (I really wish these guys were more popular) Immortal Souls - Snow Soul Fight! - Life In Black (they don't even have Youtube videos) http://s0.ilike.com/play#Fight:Life+...4b06855171bf27

I listen to a LOT of "Unknown" artists, so I'll have to limit myself here...
The genre for each band is in parenthesis at the end of my description, and I put each band's MySpace link in case you want to hear more by them. Broadway - One of my favorite bands EVER, but nobody at all knows about them. (Pop-Punk/Hardcore) Of Mice & Men - More known than Broadway, but still not well known. And they're awesome. (Hardcore) Their MySpace
Worth While - Very good band, I'm guessing nobody else on this forum has ever heard of them.... (Easycore) Their MySpace I See Stars - Another great band, and I'm running out of synonyms. (Pop-Punk/Hardcore) Their MySpace Close Your Eyes - They're on Victory Records, which means that they have some exposure, but they're still pretty well unknown. (Easycore) Their MySpace If you guys like these bands, I can post more like them, but I don't want to just make one massive post now. Edit: Forgot one of the best ones! After Midnight Project - Pure awesomeness. (Alternative Rock)

Dax Riggs and his various musical projects (Agents of Oblivion and Deadboy & the Elephantmen to be more specific) are great. He's got a great voice and his lyrics are pretty cryptic, making each listen unlock new meanings.
Twilight Sad, We Were Promised Jetpacks, Frightened Rabbit, Bear Hands, The Lonely Forest are all really good indie rock bands ranging from USA to Scotland. |

fun. is a group that is relatively unknown. After the Format (another band that is unknown) went on hiatus, the lead singer formed fun. This is the video of the first single from their first album, "Aim and Ignite"

I really like Gojira, a relatively unknown progressive death metal group. Influenced by the likes of Meshuggah, their music is unique, meaningful, relentless, and progressive.
Here's one of their best songs, "The Art of Dying", from their latest album The Way of All Flesh.
