What does weapon weight affect?

I initially thought it affected the weapon speed, when attacking, but I switched from a very heavy to a very light (singled handed weapon), and there does not seem to be any speed change.

Anyone know?

I'm pretty sure its speed

FYI - it appears the higher combo u have, the faster u will attack. make sure u are comparing the speed of a low combo hit.
