Macho M. Yes -Glitchy achievements: 1 - Master of Skills may take more than 100 skills to get. Still, you will get it while going for all stance achievements. -Unobtainable achievements: NoWord of advice Rent this game and make an alternate profile before starting it. It’s one of the love or hate games – either you will be willing to spend lots of time on it or you will want to forget it after the first hour. Step #1: Vegetarian Runs Described in detail here (credits to Blade of Honour, I've changed the post a bit): http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=215455 You may need a few Vegetarian runs on Easy/Normal to unlock Hard. Start a game on hard. Choose one of the first 2 dialogue options (to get taken to the village) Fight the two bandits harassing Chidori (be sure to lose -some- health) Harvest/Steal/Eat a few Radishes (some can be found growing near Munechika, the farmer you meet in the first, automated event) Go to world map, choose Leave Amana to reset the game. Bam, 1050 samurai points, go figure... Repeat 10 times and you've unlocked everything, as well as all Samurai point related achievements. In this run, you will get all needed Samurai points, all head models and clothes as well as some additional stuff like accessories and weapon safes. Expect to nail quite a few achievements during this short 40-60 minute part. (Between #1 and #2 – get a good weapon… check the weapon guide at gamefaqs for the best weapons dropped by characters. Upgrade your sword to maximum when possible at blacksmith’s (and don't forget to kill him afterwards and get your money back). Step #2: Ending Runs This game has 22 endings and you need only the first 21. I suggest going for the 4 difficulty related achievements as well, choosing the ending 7 for hard and 21 for instant kill (in 21, you should save before killing Shuzen and not finish the game till he drops Kokushi-Tou, Samehadamaru or My Hoe). It would be wise to play with Yukino as your companion and gather some swords as well. Step #3: Weapon Runs (Kasumi Run) Check your weapon safe for the ones you have… and get those you don’t have yet. This part seriously requires a guide and due to the randomness of the swords it can be pretty annoying. Saving near the NPC and reloading when he has something else than the weapon you need saves time though. I suggest doing a Kasumi Run (explained below) too. Step #4: Mop Up It’s high time to learn all skills for stance related achievements, do the chain kill achievements and nab everything else you don’t have yet. Samurai Point related achievements: http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/UPp8NVo=.jpg Samurai Leader 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Total Samurai Points exceeded 200 points. You should get this after your first Vegetarian run. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/UP-e3qM=.jpg Samurai Hero 15http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Total Samurai Points exceeded 2000 points. You should get this after your second Vegetarian run. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/UP4+JjA=.jpg Legendary Samurai 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Total Samurai Points exceeded 10000 points. You should get this after your 10th and the last Vegetarian run. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/UPyG1ko=.jpg Head Collector 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Obtained all Heads. You should get this with the Legendary Samurai achievement. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/UP6n3-8=.jpg Outfit Collector 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Obtained all Outfits. You should get this with the Legendary Samurai achievement. Ending related achievements: http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/-eIkQA==.jpg Ending 25 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Completed the game. See Way of The Samurai achievement. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/s1.jpg Victory 100 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Completed and discovered the True Ending. The true ending is ending #1. See Way of The Samurai achievement. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/-ALc0w==.jpg Five Stories 50 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Completed and discovered 5 Endings. See Way of The Samurai achievement. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/+aA3Kg==.jpg Way of The Samurai 150 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Completed and discovered all Endings. This game has 22 endings and you need only the first 21. I suggest checking the PS3 guides for WoTS 3 on gamefaqs, they are good enough to get you most of the endings... For example, check this guide, it is pretty good. Some things should be noted: *Events (or inklings) must be done in a particular order. *Don't talk to the NPCs after the events unless you're told to. *Beware of automatic events, while some (Shuzen's men talking to Munechika) do not cause any harm, others like the party at Minori can easily destroy your ending. *Save one or two times in a playthrough. I know how stupid this sounds, especially when the game is so easy and can be completed in less than an hour, but it's quite easy to miss the ending you want. At the very least you should save each time after the automatic Nobunaga event. *Some maps may have more than one event - save before trying one of them. *Events tend to appear in an area when you leave it OR you move to another specific area (some events appear when you move to Minori and you're not far enough to trigger the automatic Shuzen's attack event). Difficulty related achievements: http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/+KYqkQ==.jpg Weak Samurai 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Cleared the game in Easy difficulty. See Samurai Slayer achievement. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/+UbSAg==.jpg Skilled Samurai 15 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Cleared the game in Normal difficulty. See Samurai Slayer achievement. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/+vg-ww==.jpg Samurai Master 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Cleared the game in Hard difficulty. See Samurai Slayer achievement. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/s3.jpg Samurai Slayer 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Cleared the game in Instant Kill difficulty. When you start a game you're allowed to choose your difficulty level. You must get an ending to get this achievement. The difficulty achievements do not stack. You're better off choosing endings without large battles for the harder difficulties (I suggest #7 for hard and #21 for Instant Kill) It's fairly easy to lose the Instant Kill batte royal during your recruitment mission in Castle Amana. As soon as it starts, press and hold RT and run to the opposite side of the crowd. When you're far enough, watch the battle and fight the only survivor. Title related achievements: http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/s2.jpg Samurai 4EvR! 50 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Cleared game with more than 120% Samurai Rating. It's the same as getting the title #2. See Title Master achievement. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/UPoJLwg=.jpg Title Collector 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Obtained 5 titles. See Title Master achievement. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/UPgoJr0=.jpg Title Master 40 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Obtained 20 titles. I have to give you the information from the PS3 community as it's rather hard to determine what actually decides your Samurai Rating... http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/way-samurai-3/28259-title-list-requirements.html The titles are described pretty well too, but I do not suggest grinding for them - you will get most of them by going after the endings. ~6 titles are as simple as bumping into a person 50 times, with those added you should have more than 20. To get some titles, you must get an ending. You can check for alternative title guides on gamefaqs. Edited April 22, 2010 by Macho M.
Macho M.
Weapon/Attack related achievements: http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/+TnO5Q==.jpg Weapon Forger 5 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Created a weapon. You must find a pommel, grip, guard, and blade, then go to a blacksmith in tatakane or Omiki town and ask him to create a weapon. Choose those parts you have... and he'll make a custom weapon. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/UPmO-WA=.jpg Forged Weapon 5 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Forged a weapon for the first time. Add an upgrade to a weapon at blacksmith's, very easy to do. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/UPnx4Yc=.jpg Weapon Destroyer 5 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Broke an opponent's weapon. The easiest way is to block against a random grunt... like a thug in front of Munechika's farm. However, don't even try to get it - it'll come naturally by playing the game. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/UPhuBfM=.jpg Killer 5 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg First time killing an enemy. Probably the first achievement you'll get. Be sure not to use a blunt attack (presss "back" to switch between lethal and non-lethal modes) http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/UPgRGRQ=.jpg Blunt Attack 5 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Defeated an opponent with a Blunt Attack. The easiest way to get is to attack an opponent with a broken (zero durability) weapon on Instant Kill difficulty. It's easiest to break weapons by constantly attacking enemies or by doing the radish cutting job and attacking the stone lumps. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/+mHGDA==.jpg Zero Blunt Attack 5 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Defeated an enemy with Blunt Attack using a weapon with zero durability. See Weapon Arsenal achievement. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/UPjExSA=.jpg Weapon Arsenal 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Obtained 50 different weapons. This faq has all weapons listed and some ways to obtain them provided. To get this achievement, you must collect only 50 weapons. First of all, you can carry only 3, so either store the weapons in your house (it's in Tatakane village, marked by a red house icon), have Yukino as a companion and talk to her or store them after loading the save yet before starting a new game. However, to gain all skill related achievements, you MUST have almost every weapon in the game. You can get the achievements without having a couple of weapons, but it is highly unlikely and I suggest getting all weapons before learning the appropriate stance skills. Random achievements: http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/UPuv9NU=.jpg Amana Native 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Played more than 10 hours. You'll get this eventually, this game is way longer to 1k than 10 hours. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/UPvj0S4=.jpg Payday 5 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Completed a job successfully. This faq has all the jobs listed. Except the jobs you have to do for the endings and weapons, I suggest doing only the jobs of filleting a tuna in Posting Station and Castle Amana... they take less than 20 seconds with a good weapon on easy and they're even easier on Instant Kill. Each tuna gets you 600 yen. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/UPm9xHw=.jpg Relationship 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Obtained a partner. Basically, you have to find a place and time when a partner can appear, then you only have to talk to him and selet the right actions/answers. Once again, this faq has all partners and the ways to get them listed. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/UPuczck=.jpg Extra Sword Safe 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Obtained an extra Sword Safe. You'll get this while going for Legendary Samurai achievement. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/UPwfL4U=.jpg Assassin 40 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Defeated Shuzen Fujimori. At least 4 endings require this, the shortest way to do it is by choosing ending #21. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/UPvp15s=.jpg Bushido 50 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Defeated Sensei at the Dojo. There's a Dojo at The Gate, you need to defeat two assistants before facing Sensei on the third floor. The easiest way to complete this is to attack them all before they even draw their weapons on Instant Kill difficulty. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/UP4NHyw=.jpg Power of 10 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Achieved 10 Chain Kills. See Power of 100 achievement. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/UP4NHyw=.jpg Power of 100 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Achieved 100 Chain Kills. First of all, you must parry an attack (press the block button and release it right before the opponent's attack). There's a chance to match the attack, meaning that you will always parry it automatically as long as it's turned on in the options. You can also match attacks by buying match scrolls from the trade at Posting Station at day 5... Erm... anyway, when you parry an attack, an icon with a button (first one is always A) usually appears. If you press it fast enough, you initiate an instant kill. For the next instant kill you only have to be near the opponent and press the appropriate button (no parrying is needed anymore). All instant kills in succession are called chain kills. Macho M.
Skill related achievements: Suspicious person (NPC with a bucket on his head which can only be met at night) can drop any weapon in the game. Farm him as often as possible (he's a random encounter, so saving near him won't help) and try to keep the weapons he drops. When you start farming swords, I suggest doing an IK Kasumi Run - most of the weapons from missions will require high trust from job dealers. You should do 4 jobs for each dealer, find Kasumi (one of the companions) and kill her for Kansei (her sword - one of the most annoying to obtain weapons), and then simply go to the dealers with the missions you need and ask for a job. If they give you a different one than you need, go to another area and go back to them. The rule of the thumb with swords is - if it's possible to get on Instant Kill, then by all means do it. On other difficulties the chance of that rare sword dropping is way worse. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/-JslHA==.jpg Upper Stance Mastery 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Mastered all skills of Upper Stance. Samehadamaru - farm Shuzen in ending #21 on IK difficulty. Ryurai-Zetten - farm Shuzen in ending #21 on IK difficulty. Ookuronama - get it during the Kasumi Run after killing Kasumi and getting Kakitsubata, Sayoshigure, and Yagarasu. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/-Xvdjw==.jpg Middle Stance Mastery 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Mastered all skills of Middle Stance. To find out more about the swords, read this guide. To master the skills, check Weapon Specialist description. Problematic weapons Kikusui - farm Shinnosuke on IK. Kakitsubata - get it during the Kasumi Run after killing Kasumi. Tuna - this one is a pain in the a... hand. It is carried by the partner Nyanya, you can read about her in the guide... the problem is the cat in Tatakane, I spent hours looking for one there... your best bet is to check the roof of the shop and the roof on the building next to it (the one which you can climb only by jumping on the baskets near it), if the cat is not there - go to another area and return to check again. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/-1rUOg==.jpg Lower Stance Mastery 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Mastered all skills of Lower Stance. To find out more about the swords, read this guide. To master the skills, check Weapon Specialist description. Sayoshigure - get it during the Kasumi Run after killing Kasumi. Yagarasu - get it during the Kasumi Run after killing Kasumi. Zangetsu - it's easiest to kill Kirie early (don't touch the job broker), then run to the job broker and do the redemption mission. After that, any cutscene where Kirie should be will have the guy with Zangetsu instead. Ukigumo-kodachi - a very rare drop. Save nearby and be prepared to load the save quiet often. Kurotaka - Zaji appears only during some endings, I suggest the ending #21. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/UPj3-Dw=.jpg Draw Stance Mastery 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Mastered all skills of Draw Stance. The guy in green and with beads on his neck, Kirizo, will randomly drop any of the draw stance swords. Farm him at least till you have Yudachi, then either choose other ways to get other Draw Stance swords or farm him further. Zannkimaru - get it during the Kasumi Run after killing Kasumi or farm Kirizo. I suggest Kirizo. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1236/UPy171Y=.jpg Spear Stance Mastery 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg Mastered all skills of Spear Stance. You can master skills for a weapon by simply using it, but that takes very long. In my opinion, you should take as much money as possible, take Yukino as your partner (since the trading will happen during the day, you should have her live with you), go to the Posting Station after day 5 and buy basic/advanced/special scrolls from the merchant in white. If scrolls end, buy more, if you master all skills for the weapons you carry, talk to Yukino and take out a new batch of swords. When you run out of money, send Yukino home, kill the merchant, take back what you've spent and leave Amana in world map. In case of dual swords, dual ninja swords and bare handed styles, you do not need to have any specific weapons equipped... just buy the appropriate scrolls and use them. Macho M.
Since the mod I asked did not bother to sticky this guide, I won't bother with the hints. Check on the internet this page: http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/wayofthesamurai3/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-52068196&pid=929914 You can find out how to get 9999 HP by checking google. Yen is easiest to get by doing tuna chopping (one place near castle Amana and another at the Posting Station) - 600 yen for a job. Don't waste money - buy all the things you need in the beginning of a new game (well, some of the best items are available after day 5), kill the merchants, get your monmey back, leave Amana... some partners at your house also increase the safe by 3%, you can check the guide I gave for the partner achievement... I've read about dojima (sp?) exploit too, but I'm not sure if it still works. Check google for that too... Beware of thieves (men in blue/green clothes), they start running at you as soon as they spot you. You can either run in the opposite direction or draw your sword and fight them. Macho M.
I'm glad that you found it useful. I've tried making it as detailed as most of the guides of The Pants Party... Good luck with the achievements. The roadmap may be slightly incorrect, I 1k'd this game in 65 hours with lots of time wasted doing stupid things and I gave his game 3 or 4 difficulty only because of 100 chain kills achievement (still, I got it in an hour... it's quite annoying that sometimes one of the last 5 people is way too far to reach during the chain kill mode). 9999 Hp + 10 chicken cakes, 10 jumbo radishes and another 10 of another health item (can't remember the name... it heals 1000 or 2000 points) makes this game a cakewalk in terms of difficulty, it's only time consuming then... RPD_Nightmare
It's a good guide indeed. Thanks for the tips and points, quite handy. I also think this game is not too hard to complete, the only problems i've found so far is the amount of time and dedication to finish all the endings and titles, and specially the weapons mastery achievements (they're actually killin' me >_<!!) appart that, i dont think there're much more problems with achievements, is a very easy game to get the full 1000. Guizon Maltrov
Is this game really worth renting? cause as far as i see the achievs are a lot time consuming... but it seems like a great game though with poor publicity...
DarknessEvolved
This whole "Kasumi run" thing makes no sense. Several swords say to get them after killing her. How does killing her decide when a sword is available, and if you kill her for Kansei, then how do these swords even factor in. Elaborate please. I suppose I can just use the faq on gamefaqs, but the more help, the better.
Macho M.
In case it still matters to anyone... The whole Kasumi run is important to avoid taking dealers' requests dozens of times. Generally, you COULD get the dealer to trust you -> get that dealer's sword -> start a new game, but that would be a bother. Even more so with Kasumi, as she requires high trust from ALL dealers, meaning load of useless missions for you to do. In case you strictly go for Kasumi first, you don't need to raise the each dealer's trust again when you kill her and go for his stuff. Going for dealers' weapons also screws up your relationship with them in a couple of cases (as much as I remember), so it's much easier to get the weapon from Kasumi first and then get the jobs from dealers. You must only do that in the right order... the weapons from dealers must be obtained in the same way gamefaqs guide tells you to. Anyway, the choice is yours. The Kasumi run I described is optional - you may very well enjoy raising dealers' trust a bunch of times if you prefer. Raising their trust is also one of the most time consuming parts of the game... I simply described the shortest way I knew to 1k it. PS. I don't even own an XBOX anymore, so I can't really provide more help... try contacting Grummy, he might help you. Or write me a PM next time, cause after spending so much time on this game I still remember it quite well. Edited September 3, 2011 by Macho M.
