Slugger VII
I haven't played the second yet but I loved the first one! I recommend it to get the story and gameplay mechanics down. I mean im sure you would be fine starting with 2 but number 1 was a great game by itself. I recommend it. You could probably get it real cheap too
Yunder
If you plan on playing the second one, then I highly recommend picking up the first one. You don't need to, but you'll get a much better feel of the story if you play the first one first. Then, moving onto the second. Plus, its a pretty amazing game as well. Definitely worth a pickup. DOOKH8R
Just asking that's all. Did you read the review here: http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/assassins-creed/review/ or any of the hundreds of threads about this game? Might be a good place to start
oblivionspawn07
If you want the story to be amazing play the first one first, but the second one is definitely the better game.
jradich
The fist Assassin's Creed is a must. There are some plot call backs in the second. You could just play the second, but both are worth playing!!!

a random cat
IMO, the second AC is better than the first, but I would buy the first one to understand the storyline.

K05ch3i
Both quality games although i much preferred 2 to 1. I found it played a lot better and there was more of a free roam nature to it compared to AC1. Plus i pretty much sucked at AC1
Thunder Book
Am I the only one who preferred AC1 to AC2?
Goats
Definitely get both. The first one is cheap enough that there should be no question about it. The second one is already going down in price. So you can manage paying the same amount for a brand new game and getting both of these.
gerowniko
This game is great, you should definitely play this one first and then AC2. Edited April 12, 2010 by gerowniko
Stewie Griffin2
I know you've probably already made your decision, but if you haven't I'll chip in my 2 cents. I personally loved both games, and in my book AC2 was the GoTY last year. But AC1 was a better setting for the type of game, as well as a great story. The beginning of AC2 will be pretty confusing, as will several other things, if you haven't played through the first. And as I said before, I just enjoyed the crusades setting better than Renaissance Italy. All that being said, if you're a completionist and don't care for collectables or story lines, do NOT play the first game. There are a total of 480 collectables with 420 flags and 60 templars that can take some time and some of them are a little glitchy, especially the templars. If you don't mind collectables, then make sure to ALWAYS have this website up on a nearby computer while you're playing and check off any flag that you pick up or you'll be posting in the "99 flag club" thread. AsbestosPenguin
I'm currently playing through AC1 because I really want to have followed the story through the trilogy. From what I've heard though, AC2 took everything that was AC1 and made it better. Considering I'm having a blast playing AC1, I can't wait to finish it and play the sequel. Tigore
If you're considering playing the second, I suggest at least renting the first to get the back story. You will also appreciate a number of the improvements in AC2.
Masterbelg
If you're going for the story, definetly buy 1 and maybe later 2 prefering to fight the whole time, or just play it for gamerscore? forget 1, and buy 2 (If you want to play a mission again, remember that this can't be done in 2)
R3vengeance
They're both stellar titles.
