Scrap Metal - First Impressions
For those who have played the game already, what do you think about it?
I am slightly disappointed that the game isn't as good as I thought it was going to be. I mean, I knew it wasn't going to be a GOTY or anything like that but the game doesn't grab my attention at all. I think the first lap was fun and after that, the novelty wore off. I'll give the game a second shot later on today when I get out of class, maybe I am just too tired this morning to enjoy it. Anyways, thoughts?

Yea the 1200 point price also turned me off from it. I guess I'll just keep saving my points till Perfect Dark next week.

Meh, it's ok. Toy Soldiers is much more fun, but being as there is like 6500 msp in my account (Go Christmas!) Thought I'd splurge. It was the only game of the 3 I wasn't sure about, so now when I get Perfect dark I'll get 400 msp back, which is like paying 800 for it. I think it's worth that.

The game is not what I originally thought it was gonna be, but it's fun...however it is not 1200 MS Points fun, more like 800...the Achievements are somewhat easy so that is a plus!

I love this game. More for the online play. Me and 3 friends were playing last night and it's hilarious in a party of 4. Sometimes frustrating, when you spin out but it happens to everyone due to the nature of the game. But yeah, parties = fun. |

You should try Space Giraffe then.
I really like this game alittle frustrating trying to get gold on all the missions but overall very enjoyable. This game was completely off my radar, since PD was all I was interested, played the demo then bought it. |

Anyway, I'm currently downloading the demo for Scrap Metal. Not sure whether I'll like it, but since I'll be buying Toy Soldiers and PD I figure I may as well see if I can get in on MS' offer.

I really enjoy this game, single player can get tedious and boring but multiplayer with a couple of friends is a blast - but not many people have it on my friends list so it does get lonely on multiplayer sometimes.
If you are debating on buying it, check your friends games list and see if any of them have it. If so I would defiantly buy for a fun multiplayer game with friends!

Regretting the purchase. Not enough demo derby and too much "here's an elimination race with no weapons also your tires are now made of soap" crap.

I've just finished playing the trial and I have to agree with Mikeszetec. One of the worst games on XBLA. Don't really see how the game could be enjoyable for anyone. I find it strange that your car sort of drifts but can turn on a dime. Anyway, I probably wouldn't even get this if it were 400 points. 1200 is a joke.

I really liked this game. It reminds me a lot of Stewart's OffRoad on the old Arcade machines or Super Sprint which was also on the old arcades. I own them all on my MAME Arcade Cabinet. I also play those with a spinner. Same kind of spinner you would use on Arkanoid or Tempest or CamelTry. Anyways what they would do is add a steering wheel to the spinner, and man with that kind of control you could really drift around corners.
Anyways...These controls work well. Not the best, but they are okay. I tend to use the advanced control scheme for derbys and what not to turn around quicker. I prefer the basic controls for everything else though. Is the game worth the money? I mean if you are a fan of OffRoad or Championship Sprint then yeah you will love this game. I mean if you even know what those games are. Everyone talks about Micro Machines and some folks say RC ProAM. I remember that one on the old NES, but I never played Micro Machines. I remember the toys as a lil kid, but thats that. Anyways if you are a child from the 80's that played the old OffRoad at an Arcade or Wal-Mart like me you will like this game. Oh yeah one more thing...There are weapons in this game. That is really cool!

I love it. It reminds me of top down races I was playing 20+ years ago.
Like Death Rally, Spy Hunter & Micro Machines. Probably should have been an 800 point game but I'll definitely get my Aus$19.80 worth of play out of it. |

It's actually better than I thought. The first time I played the trial, I was so confused about the controls, but after playing it more, I got use to the controls and now I have a gold medal on every mission.
There were only 1-3 missions that I had trouble getting the gold medals.

Calling this game one of the worst on XBLA is straight up unfair and ignorant. I understand if you don't like it, but there are a lot of games offered that are much worse than this one.
Me, I was totally surprised by it. The price is a bit steep, but so is Toy Soldiers. I did the same logic as some of the wiser individuals here (Block Party deal made it 1200 minus the free 400 minus the extra month of XBL, which makes it total $6). I like the game. It definitely has the old-school RC Pro Am/Micro Machines/Super Off Road vibe to it. I have fun with this, and the online battles (play during the 3-7pm time) have been a lot of fun and intense. |

Bought this game sorta hoping for a mini-arcade-twisted metal for XBLA however I usually never feel like im controlling the car, and I feel like im not having fun, where as Twisted Metal I have no problem killing people and racing, where in this game I can only kill or I can only race, not both. Ehh. Its alright though I suppose.
