Final Boss Battle Tip

The achievement guide/walkthrough on this site was invaluable in helping me finish this game, but I noticed something during the final boss battle that wasn't mentioned in the guide. During the first phase of the battle (when the monster keeps putting his shield up) I noticed that he had a skull on each of his thighs. These are the 'sources of power' that the Darkness says power his shield. Unload on those skulls with your gatling gun (or whichever weapon you prefer) every time he drops his shield. Once both skulls are destroyed he will fly up in the air, unleash another group or two of souls and then fly off, triggering the second stage of the battle. If you don't destroy the skulls, the shield will eventually be destroyed anyway, but it will take significantly longer.
