Looks like a good list. Only worry will be the online rankings and how quickly they go up.
Looking forward to a WRC game on the Xbox360 after years of PlayStation exclusives (although RalliSport Challenge on Xbox was awesome)

I think if you stick to online games you get level 20 in one day and if you boost it ll be less than that.

Achievements are easy and they unlock naturaly as you go through career mode its just time consuming

I am thinking of renting this game but could someone tell me what the WRC Academy challenges consist of please .

Those are just a couple of short challenges, most of them about a minute long and requiring you to beat a ghost driver on different underground.

But before going for those directly I would recommend to start a career or do some single stages or rallys on beginner, then you will probably beat most challenges on the first try.
