Odd Character in Comments
I've been starting to see a text character that looks like a key with three F's on it and a D. I only see it on this site and only on comments to news articles. I can copy and paste it: , but to everyone else it may not be that. Here's a printscreen of it in this post:
![]() Any ideas? It's annoying me and I'm starting to think it's a currency symbol that my computer can't see or something.

Are you using Firefox because i just did a search on google and found a forum talking about a grey square with the words fffd which is similar to the one you described. They mentioned that it is a problem with the newest update to firefox linked to a bug in that update. Try this on you browser if you are using firefox (View>Charater Encoding>Auto-detect> and then change it to either universal or western and see if this solves your problem. There is no other fix but i guess that as with any bug they will all be fixed at sum point. I hope that helps ure problem and if you arent using firefox in the first place then i dont know sorry.
Edit After looking further down the page on the forum a few people are talking about the page style changing when you change the character encoding so i guess do that at your own risk. Go here if you want to look at it ureself - http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view...entStyle_plain Last edited by IGzxManiiac; 08-05-2009 at 10:57 PM. |

I've seen those before, you can make them appear manually using a code with an ampersand. Do get rid of them follow the instructions in the link

Most spyware, virus's, hacking forms and such are normally made on windows as the code is easy to alter and turn into a self contained operation which can do what it wants. When they update firefox and web browsers for both platforms there not coded the same so they run into different issues.
I have noticed firefox crashes a lot on OS X but less on windows but it depends what your doing. Neither platform is perfect but obviously one is more stable than the other. Windows programming has always been issue riddled in various ways. I have run into plenty of issues with my mac but nothing I would complain about unlike my previous encounters with windows. They will fix this bug soon enough though, it's nothing major. |

You're seeing text rendered in a way firefox can understand it. You most likely don't have that language's text installed. For instance, on my work computer, all the Japanese games here show those boxes (with various letters and numbers in them), but here at home it displays normal Japanese font.
