How do i work a parachute

Man that method just doesnt work for me one bit..

I go as high as the plane will go. Press B to exit the plane and then hold A until I either reach my death or land in the water. Any more tips?

I got in a plane, went up a bit, pressed B, waited a second and then Pressed and Held A for a second. It was my first achievement unlocked

I used parachute from like very high:P and I was going down for like 10 seconds but I ddin't land and the game ended and I didn't get the achievement..=\

Just wait like two seconds after you have left the game and then press A.
