My favorite is definitely the Narrow-Beam Laser. With 120 in Gunnery, my character can inflict 41 points of damage per blast. For only 14 red, it's a bargain. With that one equipped, the Gamma Sphere was a piece of cake.

I found the Bola Mines (doubles mines in play) very useful. That, along with the (don't remember the name) attack that converts all yellow gems into mines, makes a powerful weapon. I did 120-140 damage at times with this, especially against pirates, who also have the Bola Mines.
The Gamma Sphere went down like the Zeppelin on the first try and I didn't even break a sweat.
