Ranking System Guide: Quickest Way for YOU to Rank Up
This guide intends to explain to you how to optimise your time/experience gain ratio in GOW2's new ranking system legitimately: ie no boosting and no glitching.
A Basic Overview:
To go up in rank, you need to complete games and gain experience. The more experience you earn, the higher your rank. The highest points scoring games are the respawning game modes, but the quickest have little or no respawns. This leaves a dilema of which to pick? Hopefully this guide will help explain which one choice is the best choice for YOU.
The experience gained at the end of every game depends upon three things:
1) The number of points you recieved in that game in total (not the number of kills, captures etc that you achieved, these do not affect the experience awarded).
2) The game mode you were playing.
3) If you quit the game before. Quitters now recieve a -1500 exp penalty at the end of their next completed game for every game that they have quit from.
The Basic Experience Formula:
Average experience awarded per game = YOUR average points per game for that game mode*game mode value
Details about how to find your average points awarded per game are at the end of the guide before the 'Questions' section
From this we can see that Wingman and the game modes previously grouped as 'Elimination' (Warzone, Execution, Guardian) are more effective at converting points into experience than the 'Territories' (KOTH, Annex, Submission). It appears that the player is 'rewarded' for the lack of/relient upon others spawing systems in place for the 'Elimination' game modes, and 'penalised' for the almost unlimited respawning in these other game modes. However, in these 'Elimination' game modes, less points are usually earned in comparison with 'Territories'.
EPIC have tried to balance the new experience system so that the experience earned per game is balanced throughout all of the different game modes. Crucially, this theory ignores the average time for these games to finish...
To combat this use YOUR answer to the Basic Experience Formula, in this formlula:
Speed of Experience Gain Formula:
Speed = Average experience awarded per game (answer from Basic Experience Formula)*Game Duration
This is a list of approximate Game Duration values:
The higher your answer, the quicker your experience gain from that game mode is. Your answer is in 'average experience gained per arbitrary of time', the average duration of a Warzone game is taken as 1 unit.
Conversion into experience per hour:
Speed (answer from Speed of Experience Gain Formula)*5.5 = experience gain in 1 hour (exp/hour)
Assuming that an average Warzone game takes around 11 minutes to complete and move into the lobby of the next game. This allows you to convert your previous answer from an arbitrary time unit into exp/hour.
Horde:
This gametype can not be included into the other section of the guide, as it rewards experience for the completion of waves, not the number of points that the player collects when playing.
It is important to stress that the exp values listed below are for the completion of any wave in horde regardless of the points acquired by the player upon completion of the wave. Epic have taken the stance that if a player who is part of a team, alive or dead at the end of the round, if that round is completed by the team, all players in that team shall recieve the experience for completing that wave, in private or public. These values for completing a wave are dependant upon difficulty, not the wave number (completing wave 50 gives the same experience as completing wave 1 on the same difficulty, it just takes longer to complete :/).
The values are as follows for each difficulty:
Casual: 100
Normal: 150
Hardcore: 200
Insane: 250
Horde is impractical to boost when playing in a party which cannot complete waves 1-5 on hardcore in under 10 minutes, however, if this can be achieved then Horde is the most likely the most efficient way of boosting experience for most people (1000-1500 in <10 mins), just do not go past wave 5 as then it becomes impractical again, after the completion of waves 1-5, rinse and repeat.
Read the red horde section above before continuing, if this applies to you then factor Horde waves 1-5 in to your consideration of which game mode to pick with a value of 1500 when comparing with your other results.
What really matters here is how good YOU are. If you have a points per match ratio of over 1000 in the 'Elimination' game modes, it is advisable for you to play these more than others in order to increase your rank quicker.
However if your points per match ratio in the 'Territories' game modes is more than 8000, it is advisable for you to play these (the 8000 comes from the use of the 'game mode values' and an assumption that the average 'Territories' game take twice as long as the 'Elimination' game modes).
When not in a party, and the ability to fix which gametype being played is not availible (all people on your team voting for the desired gametype), you have to work out you're values for each playlist not just an individual gametype. This may affect which playlist you choose.
I have found that the 'average' gears player feels that the Guardian-Submission playlist is their 'playlist of choice'. Personally, as I do disproportionally well in Execution-Warzone (2000 points on average per match) I tend to prefer utilising this playlist. Those skilled in territorial warfare (ie capturing, holding and breaking points) are obviously tended towards the Annex-KOTH playlist as they score well in these game types. Wingman is only a safe bet if you have a skilled friend who allows you to win more games than you lose and therefore earn a high number of points per game.
Hopefully you should now be able to figure out which is the quickest way for YOU to rank up. Any suggestions on how to improve the thread are welcome, and I will try to answer any quesions.

Questions:
icypinksmurf: "Hey, do you think you could also add what can maximize out points in ranked matches? Like do curb stomps get more experience over meat shields? That would be awesome, every little point helps towards it,"
04cartert:"For a kill the maximum number of points you can get is 175. Head shots, one shots etc. can reward 175 points straight off the bat. You recieve 50 max for a down and 110 for the execution (max 160 when the player is downed)
The way in which you kill somone does therefore affect the total points you get off a kill. The longer exections (eg.curbstomp) reward the player with a more impressive and personal way of finishing enemies, but with 15 less points.
It is the percentage of the total damage that you have done to the player who has died that affects the points awarded.
For example, if you killed one person by yourself and they took no damage from other players at any point in that life; if you gibbed them, you would recieve 175 points, but if you downed, then executed them, you would recieve 160 points. If you and a teammate were lancering someone and you both hit with the same number of bullets (assuming both guns had/hadn't been actived reloaded) then, no matter who finishes the kill, you shall both be awarded with the same number of points.
Kill stealing results in the stealer, if having done no damage to the downed player before stealing them, recieving 10 points. The other points are split up (totalling 100) using the percentage of damage inflicted method"
Wow that's some pretty in depth stuff there..I'll have to test it out .

you sir, are a legend good job i love this game dont no why people r bitchin it?
ty man t'appreciated, and I ain't to sure, apart from problems installing TU3 I have had no problems at all in gameplay etc, its been brilliant! Some people live to complain hey! :P
Great Job!! This makes perfect sense after reading your guide. I played guardian-submission last night trying to work on those achieves. I found when I tried a game of annex I got less exp and now I understand why. For me I am an average gears player so I am better off sticking with guardian-submission and If I get lucky here and there pick up more points.

It really seems like Gaurdian would be the best mode for everyone except the leader (usually they just stay camped somewhere or running constantly with little chance to kill). Experimentation time.
Amazing guide. I assumed when the update first came out that each playlist contained the same exp for those game types. I thought that warzone and execution were both 1, guardian and submission were .9ish and KoTH and Annex were like .25. Now I know, but it makes no sense. Execution seems to require more skill since you can't just kill them from long range unless it is a one hit kill. Whatever though there is some reason I guess for them making it .98 for execution and warzone 1.0.
A side note..
I got into a match with a terrible team (my friends were not playing at the time so I had to play with crap) and the other team was a clan. They voted submission and we had to play on day one so the other team just had like 2 teammates at each power weapon (torque/snipe and mortar/hammer) and they just kept owning our whole team until only 2 of us were still playing and 3 bots on our team. Three people on the other team had over 20,000 points each from that one match. It lasted for about an hour and was really annoying.
Is there a limit to the amount of exp you can gain from a match????

Wow, very nice post indeed. It doesn't really matter what game mode I play, because the monumental lag I get with every single damn game makes each one a chore.
As much as I appreciate the support that Epic has given to the game (TU3 is perfect in private games), the main multiplayer is far beyond fixing in my eyes.

I understand what you mean, but since the TU my connection appears to of improved dramatically, pot luck maybe? And no, as far as I am aware, your score has no limits, it can increase to any number imaginable.

Exactly, totally agree, great supprot by Epic, but terrible lag, still no multiplayer game like TF2, and I doubt any mp game will be better than TF2, except of course TF3

if you can get a full party together who knows what they are doing guardian is the fastest my guys I play with we win two quick and then leave two guys defending our leader and the other two go kill and then switch the other round, works most games Im avg. around 1800+ exp per game in the same time as ex and warzone IMO
