Don't have a clue why, I suppose it's just both handy and cool to carry around your computer...

Mine is the B Model



I'm more wondering, is anyone else getting / got one of these?

Also what are the limitations I can do with this thing??

I've wanted one, but being in the US makes it a pain in the ass to acquire. You won't be able to WINE with it, but that's no big deal. It can do 1080p native, which makes that broadcom chip just freaking incredible. I certainly want to know what it's performance is when bitcoin mining.

I'm getting an Android stick as a stopgap in the meantime.

Its really small 0.0 !

Only problem is I now need an OS and have no SD CARDS haha

So onward to amazon to find me either a raspberry pi sd card OS or a general SD CARD

I don't really know, from what I've seen and been told people have been playing wow on them and the "ONlive" gaming streamer on them... So they must be kind of powerful? Haha

Turns out the B model has more RAM which is what I have

Although physically, there are no differences between the A and B models

I'm interested in getting one, but I'm going to wait for a little while until they've become more established. The best feature for me has to be the ability to play HD videos.

There's a pretty decent deal to work with. microSD in a SD adapter. We missed a deal that expired today where 8GB microSDs were being sold for $2 a piece, no limit

Ah, but bitcoin mining isn't driven by power, but the ability to do one task over and over again. Generally we need a powerful graphics card to pull it off, but if that chip could do it, I could tie 16 of those babies together and use half the electricity that one of my machines would've used.

I bought an 8gb with it pre loaded on, plus I have a 750GB external hard drive, so plenty of extra storage

The bitcoin mining on these is apparently piss-poor, and Broadcom won't release specs (as they shouldn't) of their proprietary tech so that someone can write software to take advantage of their chip.

That's okay, though. I still ordered six. Should be here next week sometime. Depending on performance, I may just sell all my home machines and put these into service for primaries.

You may think I'm kidding, but I'm not. I just wish they ran Ubuntu because I'm far too lazy to fuck around too much with Fedora to get the environment to how I like it.

Running Razzbian. Not bad. Usable. Got a torrent running on Fedora rPi.

Am actually running Android 2.1 on it at the moment. Absolute shit. Apparently someone's working with Broadcom to make 4.0 usable, though, so we'll wait for that.

They're releasing a revision 2.0 of model B.

No big deal; fixed a problem some had with audio through HDMI and added mounting holes, which should've been there in the first place, but I digress.

MCM had 30 in stock when I ordered mine. Reselling a few at a swap meet tomorrow with accessory packages.

I did hear that revision 2 is now shipping although there are no main big upgrades. A fixed bug for connection to HDMI tv's, power access from a USB and a couple of other bugs fixed and some location holes for mounting a Pi.

im interested in buying one and am interested im programming which is basically why im thinking about computer science. thing is i dont care much about tech and hardware so have no idea whats so good about this. what can you do with them. and i heard they are good at teaching programming. mostly want to learn programming to make my own games. all i see in some bits and pieces with absolutely no idea what they do.

I've tried. I keep running into voltage problems, though, where I can't seem to get my ethernet and a keyboard/mouse to work at the same time. Apparently the XBMC software overclocks the processor which causes a more strenuous power draw on everything else, dropping the USB devices or even the ethernet. I could solve it with a powered hub, but that'd mean getting a powered hub.

I'll take another crack at it today.

I've got 2. One running Raspbmc instead of using my 360 to stream videos from my NAS.

I'm going to use the other one as an Emulator inside a gutted SNES case. So far I've taken all the innards out. As soon as the HDMI, Ethernet and USB panels come I'm going laser cut a back panel so it all looks nice and neat, mount the Pi on acrylic legs inside the case.

Also bought one of those Controller to USB port converters off eBay that I'm hoping to disassemble and attach to the original existing ports to keep it retro

Should it all come together, it'll be the $hit lol.

That is a phenomenal plan and I endorse it. I'd like to cram my Pis into more stuff, but the multitude of options keeps me from doing any. I think a C64 or Apple ][e, something with an integrated keyboard, will be what I try to put it into for giggles.

FWIW, everyone, they just boosted the Pi to 512MB for future orders, so... lucky bastards.

Also, if you're having voltage issues like me, it's your power adapter. It's lying to you about how much mA it's putting out.

Bump to say that I finally got a Raspberry Pi to work on a Motorola Lapdock. I'll take pictures of it at work tomorrow. May log in with it later. Now I need to find a half decent Wi-Fi dongle for it. Had my eye on this 1W beast:

Going to go ahead and boot this machine into windows so I can use the internet share ability. Or spend a couple of hours and figure out how to share the connection over ethernet.

Well that was easy. Sharing the connection and this is the first post from my Raspberry Pi. The screen on this lapdock is much crisper than my netbook, but I'm going to have to practice typing on this keyboard; not sensitive enough for me, missing keys, jumping up lines.

Been working on post install... Uh. Installs. Feels swifter than current Rasbian. Will be testing wi fi adapters with it tomorrow.

Also, I never followed up. I use the rPi version of XBMC. It's nearly flawless, the occasional codec issue but no big deal.
