How long before EA shuts the servers down?

Just wondering since EA is notorious for this - hoping that enough people still play and the servers will stay up for at least a while longer. This game is on sale now (on Games on Demand) and I'd like to pick it up for fun & gamerscore, but not if EA will shut it down soon. Any ideas on this?

We don't know when they'll shut it down, asking before they announce it won't produce an answer. Contrary to popular belief, EA doesn't shut down their servers after a set period of time; they make their decisions based on activity. Only exception might be their sports titles, which are the only games to ever get shut down regularly, and even then Online Passes may prolong their life.

If you're really concerned or convinced that it won't shut down in the near future, consider this: Battlefield 2: Modern Combat was released in April 2006, and its servers were shut down in August 2011. The server was up for 5 years. Pretending for a second that there is a pattern to be had, that means Bad Company is set until 2013.

I'd like to pick up this game and boost the online achievements, but I see some will be a tedious grind. I really dont want to get it and have it shut down on me.

^I shelved this game forever and starting going for 1000 this April. I got my 1K in Mid October. I had not done any awards and maybe had 300 kills when I really started it back up. I even played other games and only boosted a few awards and got the kills legit at a leisurely pace. I'd say 6 months of play and a few good boost sessions and you're good. If you are starting now, you have plenty of time If you keep at it. I still find full games all the time.

Last time i played it in Summer '11 they was still a healthy bunch of people playing it.

As for BFBC2, I don't think anytime soon.. the last time i played BFBC was in last December (2011) right before i bought BF3 and there were a lot of people playing.

With the official stats page completely gone and now Statsverse BFBC stats not working, I get the feeling EA is getting ready to pull the plug on this game. Boost quickly!

People are still able to play BFBC so as for BFBC2, you can be confident that not anytime soon.

it took me almost 3 months of regular play to get 10k2 for the game. That was 150-200 kills everytime I played. there are some awards/patches/trophies that you will have to boost unless you are incredibly lucky.

I'm considering buying this for next to nothing. Are there still anyone playing this online or should I be generally concerned that the servers will close down at any given moment?

Yerr you should be alright, i last played it roughly 2 months ago & there were plenty of people still playing =)

I played a few matches a week a go and the matches were pretty much full.

Just played it tonight and found a full match in seconds. There's no need to shut it down any time soon in my opinion.

Considering the "Beans Bullets and Bandages" achievement, and that I still find many active online games, I don't think EA will close down BF BC anytime soon. I can't necessarily say the same with BF:BC2 where I found many empty servers.

So I don't think I'd fret too much yet. Just devote time to playing and maybe you'll get the needed 10002 kills.
