if ive played the original and then play this does is register as a seperate game and give me a different gamer score based on what i unlock in the goty edition

Yes you get to earn the achievements all over again!
Game is so good I'm doing just that currently.

I hate it, as I got rid of the original thinking I could just mop up the achievements I missed, now I have to buy the original one again.
