Decoding Explained?
Hey so at this point I've gotten everything from CDs to Hard Drives, and I'm just wondering if there's any pattern?
Is it based on performance? Is it based on level? I've had games where I've gotten 2 Hard Drives in addition to a Memory Card and a DVD. I've also had a game where I got no data whatsoever after coming in 4th place. So I'm just wondering, is there a pattern with the decoding items or are they completely random? PS - Add me on Far Cry 3 if any of you guys want to play multiplayer. It's nice playing with people who have mics. |

I've played a lot of matches and it seems random to me. I'll come in last and get a couple items, but be MVP on winning team and get nothing.

In co-op I've had better stuff by playing on a higher level and with more players. Multiplayer seems performance based. Bit odd that bob got nothing as MVP.

Who thought it was a good idea to have this in the game? Ten minute decodes are annoying and hardly profitable. A half hour is silly. Eight hours? Are you fucking stupid? Terrible idea. Whoever signed off on this should be shot, then fired.

I thought the decoders thing was based on how many challenges you've done that day/week but that was wrong when I got 2 hard drives on my first game that day. |

Right. I understand leaving my console running for eight hours while I'm away, that's not the issue. I think it's one of the dumbest things I've seen in a game.

Doesnt the decoding keep going whilst your console is off? I only played about 5 games so far but when I signed back in all of my decoding was done.

At least they bother to include "speed boosts" that your friends can give to you and you can then use for a "double speed" for 2 hours. Usually shaves about 2 hours off of the big downloads, so that's nice. You can keep applying them all to the same decoding as well, so long as you don't already have one active.
Everytime I open something I get a "speed boost", so they're not in short supply. My friends get all kinds of boosts from me! Too bad I don't care about the CoD style multiplayer... Honestly, I would've liked it if we had magical powers or more control over our playstyle... But we don't. Singleplayer is where it's at.

Call of Duty style multiplayer? I tried a match the other day and it felt more like Battlefield to me.

Yep, that totally screams "Battlefield" to me. Yeah, I'm done being sarcastic. I've played something like four or five games... The whole thing screams "Call of Duty Multiplayer" to me a lot more than Battlefield. I mean, the only Battlefield I've owned or played is BF3... Which, I honestly find quite amazing and a far more balanced multiplayer than most games I've played in recent years... Slayer is slayer regardless of game played. Or "Deathmatch" if you prefer. I find that when you try to play an Objective gametype in Farcry 3... Well, it's pretty much Call of Duty all the way. It's basically "Slayer", with an objective to accomplish, which you can do by yourself if you've equipped yourself well (good perks and good gun). In Battlefield, when playing an objective gametype, I've rarely ever been able to win the whole thing by myself. Sure, it'll be an 8 on 8 or whatever it is... But it's difficult to take/hold an objective BY YOURSELF. You have Squads so you can coordinate efforts a bit so that you can manage your objectives better. If you have a team that doesn't work well together or at all... Well, you're going to get stomped, no matter HOW GOOD you are at the game, against a team who does work together. Trust me, I've seen it lots of times. Some guy cruising in a Jet with over 100 kills for the match, and his team lost because he just wasn't "good" where it counted. Farcry 3 strikes me as more the "lone wolf" type play. A really good player can take and hold all the objectives himself, especially if he's killing in two or three shots. In fact, I played on a team where a guy did just that. It was some kind of "hold the territories" gametype and he just kept running from objective to objective, killing everyone there, capping it, defending it for a bit, then moving to the next to repeat. If he started losing an objective and he was nearby, he'd drop in and kill everyone, then go on his way. He had some kind of SMG that just murdered you in 3 hits and it took the better part of a quarter to half of a clip of AK47 to even kill him. Farcry 3 reminds me WAY MORE of Call of Duty than Battlefield.

I think it's random but I did get at least 1 hard drive per Co-op chapter.
