Thieves Guild Help

So, I just completed the "Boots of Springheel Jak" quest, spoke with the gray fox and received my 500 gold no problem. Only there is a problem, my Independent Thievery quest won't update so I can't move on to "The Ultimate Heist." It's still stuck at the fence 800 gold for the Boots quest. Any ideas on what I should do? Will I have to start a new character to finish up the thieves guild questline?

this is a known glitch, and it can't be fixed on console. there is an unofficial patch for the pc version.

the whole quest is buggy. here's a link with more info.
