in new zealand, we have as would probably be expected, unfortunately followed the american example of presentation and it lacks creativity. the news is about big smiles and flashy suits backed up by a rediculous phrase on the state owned station that i can't fathom the meaning to that is,"its what you know that changes everything". fox news i still believe doesn't come on air until the early hours of the morning on free to air television and the only time i have seen it for a long period of time was during the michael jackson trial of 2003. then and still today it was more about flash than substance where you can look at the bbc and figure they have more motivation behind them than their fellow media americans. fox gets a bad rap however most of the time and sometimes i wonder whether it really does deserve it because its that bad.
a canadian media company has their shit together in this country. they actually own most of the media that is here. but when it comes to news that is from the united states of america, the story is at risk of being infested with fabrications that could make it propaganda, especially if the news is to do with war. when it comes to nationwide news, i sense that too can have the same problem but should be about the story straight. television could have too many advertisements on it in this country, you can count around seven or eight during the breaks. could that change? crime has also found its way into the media like anywhere really and the criminals who rule the roost have made sure to give their own quishy jobs in those media companies. i don't think thats fair. ![]() what annoys me about the media is they really do think they can get away with murder and you can take the phone hacking scandal in the united kingdom as a good example. the whistleblower of that was likely bumped off because he knew too much and was a threat. god the media makes me sick sometimes. ![]() ----------------------------- i will also add that a pay television broadcaster here has only one presenter and obviously gets paid less of what the other two state owned presenters do combined. i bet if they were both let go by tvnz, you could find a fresh face that would do the same job for less money, only one, and maybe have a weather presenter still thrown in. tvone should be like prime because that way they will save money and keep it simple. also, a new set that is creative. it wouldn't get me watching again but i just feel that tvnz are getting it wrong. The media sensationalizes everything. We are by far living in the most peaceful and safe time throughout mankind's history, yet the media's reporting of almost every murder, attack, act of violence, etc emphasizes these. It has a lot to do with psychology as well. Video games help relax us and in a way I see them as helping us vent out our more competitive nature--- our need to dominate. I also remembering hearing about a statistic that video games lead to less crimes since would-be criminals can often be stuck playing video games. I don't think that's a major savior for the case of video games, but it's still an interesting thing to look at.

Bottom line is - games supposed to be an experience as a break from reality. Anyone who is unable to tell the difference between actions in a video game and real life should not be playing them. If that's the case, they should seek help.
And where are the parents when applicable? You didn't hear these arguments when we played with GI Joes shooting down Cobra every day. I look forward to a good shooter if I am feeling a bit aggressive. It's a great way to take out frustrations by keeping me level headed in the real world. Without that release, I just might actually be MORE apt to pick up a real gun. ---------------------- Quote:

And because of all the negative reports in the news i don't watch it anymore. i don't fell like it brightens my day...
----------------------------- Besides most of it is not even relevant for me because its on the other side of the world. Now i can worry about it but it wouldn't change anything so i chose to best leave it be and not putting that weight on my own shoulders. ----------------------------- Quote:

The reason the BBC looks like they are more motivated than the American broadcasters is due to the fact that the BBC is completely funded by the public through a TV licence (hense the term 'Public Service Broadcast') so it is in their interest to provide a fair and unbiased opinion on these things. This is also why there are no adverts or commercials on the BBC. 'The media' like to blow things out of proportion of course, bad news always sells better than good news.
If you watch something like 'Bowling for Columbine' or any film by Michael Moore, he addresses things like violence and sensationalism. It's pretty interesting stuff and I would definitely recommend giving it the watch. |
