Saw this on the shelf today

Went to Best Buy to pick up RE6 and saw this was already on sale. I thought it didn't come out until next week...

I say this because a lot of stores (Mostly referring to Gamestop) have "displays" of upcoming games. Like my local GS has AC III and such in game cases.

Nah I didn't, waiting a couple months because I have other games to work on. It was a legit case with the Microsoft seal, security case and everything. Couple extra on the shelf too.

Most of the bigger games these days have street dates that in essence say "don't sell this shit until this day mother fucker". Some retailers will break the street date in order to get a head start on sales. However, breaking that street date really fucks up realtionships with publishers who like the idea of midnight launches and release days to track demand, sales and popularity. If it really was the game being sold in advance I would suggest talking to the manager of the Best Buy and telling them of their error. Though it does not seem like a huge deal to have a game on the shelves a few days early, a lot of people there could lose their job because of the mistake. I personally work at a local Gamestop and breaking street date is an immediate termination. I personally know of 2 people, 1 who accidentally sold a game early and another who was taking games home when we got them in (usually 4-5 days early) who both lost their jobs.

After all that however, it'd be pretty sweet to get your hands on Dishonored early. Buy that shit! After the Nats-Phillies(Reds fan, go Phillies right now....) game I'll be headed up to my local Best Buy to see if this is a company wide issue/blessing.

My guess is you saw the metal pre-order box. Looks the same and doesn't feel empty because of the metal. You have to read the back closely to see that its not the actual game (should say the actual release date somewhere).

I have mine on preorder alongside the Xbox slim, Forza 4 and Skyrim all bundled together (including dishonored) for £199. Should arrive on Wednesday/Thursday, failing that definetly Friday. I'm really excited to play it

The Toys-R-Us down the street from me had copy's already behind the shelf when I went in Yesterday picked one up finally going to be able to play it today.

I'd like to believe that breaking street dates is sometimes just someones careless mistake, but I worked at blockbuster and when games came in, there was stickers all over them saying "street date blah blah" "do not sell/display before xx/xx/xxxx" and just to make extra sure, I put a big bloody note on them too, in case my staff was extra dumb.

so if it still happens, it's most likely someone in management/supervisor to blame, as most of the regular sales staff/customer reps wouldn't have access to put the games out or even have access to the games in the first place.

I saw this game leaking for download 2 days ago so it has to be available somewhere. Games dont come out of nowhere somehas has to rip and upload it so i figured stores are selling it allready. Still waiting for mine but doesn't come out til 12th here

Yeah...this fakes me out when I see this too. I do a "Hey!" Then a quick "Oh, a display". Game Stop doesn't put out new games. They keep them locked up.

The game is a lot of fun, reviews have been good to this game so far. And the whole steam-punk style is a nice change of pace from your normal shooters.

i don't know how it is at other stores but TRU has it built into their systems that you can't even ring out a game before it's street date, a message pops up on the register saying it can't be sold

I used to work in the gaming sections at best buy during high school, and let me tell you that if any store is caught breaking the street date they will be fined and all of the that the company publishes will be pulled off the shelves and will no longer allow that store to sell there product, i happened to the best buy in the next county. the store gets a fined and the person who sold it to them will get fired, games come in a box with DONT BREAK STREET DATE on all sides lol means dont fuckin sell this shit early
