Has anyone tried this game yet? The achievements do not look complicated, just repetitive. I've never played any Lode Runner game but I noticed that there is a version on XBLA. Anyone have any input?

Lode Runner is a deceptively simple game, one of those "easy to learn, hard to master" style games. You can move left and right, climb up and down the occasional ladder, fall any length without dying, have a laser that can destroy one block to your left or to your right, and you have to collect all of the gold in the stage. Also there are enemies chasing you. For a game that is nearly 30 years old it's incredibly complicated. Lode Runner is one of those rare games that requires the player both to plan ahead, but also to have quick reflexes and think in the moment if necessary; a balance of skill and planning, where it helps to have a little of both.
But why am I telling you this? You can download a free demo on your phone, or the XBLA version, or both. Or heck, download an old abandonware version of it from the web at various sites dedicated to forgotten computer games. Or just watch a horrid "let's play" on Youtube. Whatever. |
