put a sock over your knuckels, hold controller with left hand, use index and 2nd fingers knuckles (middle knuckles) and rub your hand left and right as fast as you can, both fingers will hit the Y button as youre going back and forth (the sock is to protect your fingers and make it easier)

Good ol track and field method! give it a bash

yes I was in the same situation as you.
this buttonmashing scene is insanely stupid... and a stupid move to put into the game.

the only way is wrapping a cloth around your finger and moving from left to right over the the Y button. (still tires my arms out, but maybe that's just me)

I don't know why anyone needs the old track and field methods.

The problem is almost undoubtedly that you're wearing yourself out on the first and second phases of button bashing.

However, as you may not have noticed, it gets progressively harder to maintain the bar; the first one is very easy to keep to the top without much effort.

Then you can just rest briefly while they talk, and then bash slightly faster for the second one.

Then finally put the rest of your effort into the last one.

..Shouldn't really have any problems with this, unless you're not a veteran gamer who isn't used to such strenuous activity.

Okay, I'll bite, being able to press a button very fast has nothing to do with being a veteran gamer.

My arm was killing me after that BS. Seriously Japan, fuck you and your hyper speed button mashing. It is NOT FUN and has no relation to actual skills. Why can't you just do a cutscene? FFS a goddamn QTE would be less obnoxious

Really?! I went through the torture about 4 times before I found the saw and never failed once, this section isn't overly difficult. It's a classic part of the MGS series, everyone of them has a torture scene in.

hmm, yeah the torture scene wasn't the hardest torture scene of the series

although not a torture scene, you may want to avoid MGS4 then

Spoiler! (click here to reveal)

that part had me screaming, and i am usually good at the button tapping, even when pacing yourself

I got it from when summoning in Final Fantasy 8,i think you hold the select button and mash the square button to get the summon strength up

the scene you're talking about isn't nearly as bad as Peace Walker's.
I passed MGS4's "torture scene" in 1 try. I nearly threw a fit in Peace Walker.
although I did play MGS on naked normal

When I first heard that the torture scene was hard, I actually expected a challenge... It was piss easy for me.

I guess all of those years of button mashing on Mario Party paid off
