Glitchd Achievements

I recently started this game and saw on the forums that Grease Monkey was glitched for a lot of people. I was wondering if there is anything I can do before upgrading my weapons to prevent the glitch from happening to me. I've read the fixes, but since they're from a year ago, I was hoping the achievement would be fixed.
