Okay, first thing you must remember: You CANNOT use Photoshop brushes with GIMP.
1.First of all go HERE or to another brush download site and download the brushes that you want. save them to somewhere like your desktop.
2.The brushes will most likely be in a Zip or RAR archive -If not skip this step - you can extract these by using winRAR which you can get HERE
3.Next you must find your Brush folder - for example mine is at C:\Documents and Settings\JJ\.gimp-2.2\brushes.
4.Once you have found this folder, move the extracted brushes to it.
Congratulations! you are done. now Start up GIMP or press the refresh button on the brush window and you should see your new brushes.
Coming soon! PICTURES!!
Alright I did it all, downloaded the brush, unzipped it with winRAR (unregistered of course) then put them into the gimp brush file but anytime I start GIMP up with the brushes in the file it instantly closes and begins to shutdown my computer (begins the 60 second standby countdown.) I tried a few different brushs but none work, any ideas?
P.S. you got a typo in installing
I have no idea why any of that happened, I think maybe there is a problem with either your GIMP or Brush pack as my tutorial was written exactly the way I do it - and as you posted you were having a problem I double checked it against one on another site (see graphics resources thread) and they both detail almost the same ways. im sorry I don't know why
