Will playing this game give me anything extra for DS2?

I think you do unlock something in DS2 because when I completed the game on three occasions a screen popped up with a picture of your DS1 character in his Armor and the wording along the lines of "You have unlocked something special for use in Dead Space 2". So I guess that we will get something, possibly new armor, new weapons etc.

You unlock the Scavenger suit for use within Dead Spce 2. The Scavenger suit is a new armour for Isaac, made up out of scavenged items from the Sprawl. It looks pretty cool, but I hope it is effective against the necromorphs in the sequel!

It also opens up extra rooms in Dead Space 2 with logs, ammo, health, and stuff

I deleted my game save by mistake, so do I have to do it again to get the extra items for number 2? Or does it rely on achievements?

Thanks this should help me complete hardcore in dead space 2 with a slightly lower blood pressure

Plus it gives an introduction to dead space 2 and another dead space game to play even if it is still mini games!!
