More experience for beating higher ranks???

this is probably a really nooby question, but (on solo champ boostin) do you get more experience for beating people with higher levels?? Because i wetn from 0 to 3 really quickly, but then it took forever to get up to level 5.... if i boost another 1 month gold tag up 2 like a level 5 ... would i then get more experience and go up rank faster?

I have been trying and trying to get team or solo champ. I am a level 9/10 (goes back and forth)...still not even close. If you figure it out, let us all know.
