Greatest Guitar player ever
So basically post who you think is the greatest guitar player in the world (can be living or deceased). If your choice for greatest guitar player isn't your favorite guitarist, then name your favorite too.
One Rule: If anyone posts a Jonas Brother I'm gonna puke out my internal organs. As for me, I think the greatest ever is Eddie Van Halen, and I only say this because he really did invent a lot of the techniques of playin the guitar that all great guitarists use today, and trust me I'm not a fanboy, I hate their music. My favorite guitar player is Slash from Guns 'n' Roses, I just love his style and how he can play real meaty blues licks so clean. Plus he's a old school badass.

Stevie Ray Vaughan rocked blues too far out the water, so sad he died
![]() You can't deny he is nothing short of perfect.

I'd go with SRV as well, although I do love Steve Vai also.

Muhammed Suiçmez from Necrophagist. Guy is just OTT technical, plus he has lean mean fat grilling machine vocals. He's also entirely self-taught.

The older Jonas Brother. He blows Eddie VanHalen away.
But my favorite is John Lennon, I like how he plays like he doesn't want to be doing it.

I love the way Eddie Van Halen plays. It's different than anyone else.
I also love Angus Young. So much energy I wonder how he plays so well.

Anyone that knows me already knows exactly who i'll post.
My inspiration and only reason I play guitar today, David Gilmour. One of the comments on that video describes it pretty well, "he can take a single note and turn it into an opera with a single bend."

Never heard of that Gilmoure dude, but I have to say he really does put all of his heart n soul into playing guitar, you can just tell when a guitarist is playin from true, deep emotion. Still, you can't ignore that Van Halen video haha

Best guitarist is Jason Becker. Probably one of the best composers the guitar has ever seen and one of the most technical. I only pick him because his sound is absolutely astounding while he can play with almost untouchable technique and speed. Also, I'm a massive neoclassical fan.
His version of Paganini's 5th Caprice (not all that great sounding but shows his technicality): His own piece called Altitudes (my personal favourite): Check him out. Very sad story. If you're interested in neoclassical guitar check out these guys: Uli Jon Roth, David T. Chastain, Tony Macalpine, Vinnie Moore, Marty Friedman, Joey Tafolla, Chris Impellitteri, Michael Romeo, Joe Stump, and Yngwie Malmsteen. Some of these guys are more speed and technicality than sound. Regardless, these guys are probably amongst the most technical guitarists to ever live. Maybe not incredible sound such as Jimi Hendrix, but they compose some fantastic pieces. Quote:

Gonna have to say Rusty Cooley as the greatest, everything he does just sounds magnificant:
Or John Petrucci of Dream Theater: My favourite guitarist is probably Luke Hoskin from Protest the Hero. He's just intense and every song there is no standard riff, he changes it up all the time: Tim Millar (from the same band) is equally as talented as well, I just prefer Luke because he does the more technical stuff in the songs. |

I'd like to add Chris Amott to the list as well.
Not the best quality vid going but still an awesome watch.

Most of you have some really boring picks
I really like Vader's selections and Trashman has a nice one with Amott. I really like most of the picks, but I think there's better.
