Who would be in your supergroup?
After listening to Them Crooked Vultures (Josh Homme of QOTSA, Kyuss and Eagles Of Death Metal, Dave Grohl of Nirvana, Foo Fighters and Probot and John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin), me and my mate got on to talking about supergroups and who we would have in our ideal supergroup. We allowed for male and female choice of singer for the different range of vocals and kept it to bands still around today

Mines was:
Male vocals - Brent Smith (Shinedown)
Female vocals - Hayley Williams (Paramore)
Lead Guitar - Tyler Connolly (Theory Of A Deadman)
Bass Guitar - Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
Drums - Lars Ulrich (Metallica)

I wanted to fit Dave Grohl in so much somewhere but Brent Smith is a better vocalist than him and Lars Ulrich is a better drummer...

So who would be your ideal supergroup?

Holy crap! An interesting and original topic in the Entertainment section! I'd give you 5 stars, but it says that I've already rated the thread (lolwut?)

Anyway, here's a quick list that I just came up with from the top of my head...

Male vocals - James Hetfield (Metallica)
(My favourite Metallica song)

Lead Guitar - Buckethead / Eddie Van Halen (Can't decide =O)

(Still can't pass this, lol)

Bass Guitar - Robert Trujillo
(The old school Metallica fans will probable have a coronary if they read this, but I honestly prefer Robert > Cliff > Jason *Runs to hide*)

Drums - Neil Peart
(No competition, whatsoever!)

EDIT: I know that Joey isn't up to the technical standard of Neil, but this video still fucking rocks =) Double bass ftw.

Not for nothing, because I know this is still all opinion, but you chose Lars over.....anyone? I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm a massive Metallica fan, but Lars, as a drummer, is so overshadowed nowadays.....oh well, like said, it's still your opinion.

A lot of the replies on here are bound to fail because people are listing their favorite musicians and not worrying about how they blend. Note that I'm including dead musicians.

In the issue of Spin (September 2004; Pixies on the cover), Chuck Klosterman issues a challenge. The challenge is to build your ideal rock band within these limitations: 1) You must have a singer, guitarist, bassist, drummer, and wild card, 2) You can only have one person who's currently active in a band, and 3) You can't pick Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, John Bonham, or Animal from the Muppet show for your band.

Klosterman's ideal band would be called Doomed Honeymoon, and have the following line-up:

Guitar: Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath)
Bass: Bootsy Collins (Parliament-Funkadelic)
Drums: Tommy Lee (Motley Crue)
Wild-card: Prince
Lead Singer: Karen Carpenter
