Twitter, Facebook, Last.FM Will Be Available For Under 18's
Quote:
As some of you might be aware, those under the age of 18 are not able to access Twitter, Facebook and Last.fm in our public preview. I want to you let you know that this will remain the case when it launches to the world soon. We made this decision because as it stands now, parents aren’t able to use Family Settings to customize which of these applications their children can access. In order to offer an age-appropriate environment for everyone, we decided to turn off these applications for those Gold members under the age of 18. As expected, this has been a hot topic with the preview users. We want to make sure everyone was aware, however, that the development team is working on an update that gives parents the choice of which social applications their children can access. This means that Xbox LIVE members between the ages of 13 and 17 will be able to use Facebook, Twitter and Last.fm as long as their parents approve. The team hope to roll this out several weeks after launch and I will update you on the exact date as it gets closer.
It's not all it's up to be though, I've been in the Beta of it, the only ones I'll say are any good are Zune and Last.fm (if they fixed the music going off to music you don't want to listen to) and Facebook ok.. but it's not like I used it much to begin with.

Microsoft is trying to find a way to make the websites suit the console, unlike PS3, it has a web browser and most of the time it crashes as some websites aren't meant to run on a console, there's nothing saying they'll stop at these ones, I wouldn't mind seeing You Tube come on 360, it'll take a lot of work to get right though.

I like making friends :] Send a PM if you'd like!
I have an unhealthy obsession over the following shows: Good Eats, Melrose Place (2009 version), Supernatural, and What Not to Wear.
What 13-17 year old doesent have Facebook. I find the entire idea of parental controls lame. I myself am in 10th grade and like the mojority of the gamers in my school are getting games like MW 2 and have been playing M games for years. I mean have you ever met a 13 year old who was just allowd to begin playing T games. I think not...

Wait...why ban last.fm for minors? It's music. Not potentially finding pedophiles or something...
There's some parents out there that will go mad if they hear their kids listening to music with swears/violence in them, Microsoft just doing this so some parents won't kick up a complaint.

I think I made my account 18 year old even though I'm 17 now. Even so, how can they think their child will get raped on FaceBook when most users are pretty young.

The question is who the fuck wants to use facebook on there xbox?
The same can be said about people that want a web browser.
The thing is though, Facebook is as close to a web browser as everyone's going to get.
Especially considering it would be much more easier to move around then if you just used a simple web browser.

I know but having facebook on the xbox is not the same as a phone or ipod. Its worth having on the phone because your on the move and can just check up on things but on the xbox you probably sitting next to your laptop/computer so there is really no point unless you can view it while ingame.

There are actually parents out there who follow these sorts of things.
Back when I was younger, my dad usually let me play most M-rated games, unless it was a total gore-fest like Resident Evil or something. (Believe it or not, back then those games were considered pretty intense).
I plan on doing the same thing with my kids.
