Hard Drive not reading.

I turn on my 360 this morning and go to play Rock Band 2, and I keep getting an error saying my 'storage device has restarted'. I go back to my dashboard to check my memory, and it won't even load. My game/music libraries are completely blank, and my hard drive doesn't even show up.

Does anyone have any ideas? I really appreciate any help given.

Scroll down to the Troubleshooting section and try that stuff out. The drive may be dead, in which case you'll have to call Xbox support or buy a new one.

The last dashboard update made "unlicensed" hard drives inoperable. Meaning if you don't own a 360 hard drive directly from Microsoft, or select third party publishers (if any at all) then the hard drive no longer works. Dunno how to fix that or save your data, I'd call customer support and see if there's anything they can do about it. As far as I know they didn't really release much info and make it easily accessable for their customers, but I believe all the licensed hard drives can be found somewhere on xbox.com if I remember Major Nelson's announcement properly, as well as the thread in the gaming forums here.

Hope you can recover your data at least.

I haven't seen that confirmed anywhere yet, and that update hasn't been fully released yet. The last update, which everyone should have gotten last week, was to add WPA2 support for the wireless adapter.

There's also a good chance that "unlicensed" hard drives will still work since M$ did say they were targeting the memory cards/storage devices that plug into the front of the Xbox only. I'll have to find the page I saw that on and link it. I'll edit that in later.

It's more likely that the drive is damaged or dead.
