Have you ever been in a online ranked match with teammates that don't even speak english or just random ignorant individuals? How many times have you been in a multiplayer match when the opposing team talks so much rubbish and looks to piss you off? Why would infinity ward look to stop party chat in multiplayer matches and even regular solo story mode. I think this is idea should be stopped the party chat lets you interact with your friends and play. You can be in party chat with your squad mates the same way in game chat what's the difference. Ok I understand that they want people in game chat for several reasons. 1. When your dead not to give enemy locations. 2. Stop boosting. But sales have shown achievement games sell more, and if Modern ware fare is the start of this what games going to be next. Doesn't anyone agree that this idea sucks and it should be stopped??
I agree, I think it's a dumb idea. I signed up for XBL to talk to my friends who I don't live near anymore regardless of whether we're in the same game or not.

I think it's stupid. I paid for Xbox Live to play and talk to my friends. Now I can't talk because I want to play a game? I hope IW gets rid of this or makes a patch to stop this.

It's stupid, but I can understand the other side of the spectrum. If I'm playing solo online and the rest of my team is in a private chat, not only do I have no one to talk with, but I can't communicate with them to call out, which makes a difference in whether we win or lose. However, I've also been on the other end where I've been in a party with my friends who were on different games and was talking with them while I was playing online.
Personally I think they should just leave it as it is because either way it's a lose/lose or a win/win situation either way you look at it. However, part of the experience of playing online is to communicate with the people you're playing with, and if it just so happens they're annoying or they trash talk, well that's just how XBL is and we can't really ask for too much seeing how much of the multiplayer universe is dominated by pre-pubescent children now-a-days.
At the very least, they're not making it impossible to be in a party chat during a game. Unfortunately, for those who need to talk with someone not in the game, this is a huge inconvenience.
I can understand why they would do this, but the cons outweigh the pros here. At least for the majority of us. I'm sure more dedicated gamers that stick with one big game(Gears, CoD, Halo)will like this.

Its an inconvenience if this affects boosting games. I don't really play ranked games enough anyway so this won't really effect me. I'm curious to this what games there doing this to COD Modern Warfare2 is just a start. Agreed about dedicated gamers liking this but achievement whores won't lol..
I think it's a good idea, well especially when theres so many cheats on Search and Destroy who go on both teams telling their mates where the rest of us are on the map. Pathetic... Btw i think it should only be on Search and Destroy as this is the only one people cheat on.
Couldn't they do something like detect if people in the game were also in a party together, then simply disable spectator mode for them? Or something like that. This seems way too broad of an answer.
what a load of shit if i pay for it i want to be able to do whatever with it i don't know why they can't add a setting to the game to turn party chat block on or off so when you join a game or before you can see if the room your about to enter allows party chat while in multi-player
Although some of you may not like it, the answer is easy. If you want to play MW2 online but talk in a party chat at the same time, you simply have decide what you want to do more. If you prefer to chat, play something else and leave MW2 for another time.

I agree that the idea should be trashed. So what if a few idiots wanna take advantage? Whatever. That's just matchmaking for you. At least just ban parties in the "pro" playists and online tournaments and stuff.

Yeah but in game chat is retarded i hate having to listen to little kids scream ppl that dont speak english etc. Party chats is one of the best features that Xbox Live has i dont see why they are doing this is just a stupid idea in my opinion.

In solo it should be allowed, but in multiplayer, I don't think people should be in private chat anyways. As stated above, it's hard to work as a team when there's no communication.
I'm already in for MW2 in my house because my roommate has preordered it.
I'll make a stand now though, I'll refuse to play online in games that won't allow me the FREEDOM of talking WHO I WANT TO TALK TO. If it gets adopted more, I'll refuse to even buy games that do it.

i think its a good idea and if you dont want to hear other people change your account settings to friends voices only and from what i understand its only for search and destroy so if you want to chat to your friends dont play search n destroy, simples
I too understand why they're doing it, but I think it's bullshit. Especially in solo story mode.
Look at the pic, it's only for MP.

but on topic, i think its a good and bad thing, as many people have already stated. we'll just have to wait and see if its gonna be limited to certain gametypes, just like 3rd person, or if will apply to the whole game, which would be stupid in my opinion.
I don't like it. As a girl gamer I prefer being in a party because I can talk without getting hit on or called fat and ugly. Mute works i know but that takes in-game time to do so u get killed trying to mute ppl. Just because they won't let u be in a party doesn't mean u have to talk though so what does it solve.
WOW!
IW you make it so no-one can get kicked out because of host migration and then you go and do this so disapointed!
Hopefully you might be able to stay in party chat if all your team is there.
I like being in party chat when were waiting for a game cause we can all talk even when it's loading a game or if we get kicked due to bad connections, this is just going to make the whole online gaming spectrum a very big hassle.
I can see both sides to the argument but I think disabling it altogether is the wrong way to go about it. My friend plays COD4 all the time and when the new one comes out we're never going to be able to speak to him again
